Well, I'm already avoiding salt. Not sure why, but drinking enough water everyday is the hardest adjustment for me. I'm definitely trying though.

Take a look at what prepackaged foods you may be eating might have as far as sodium content goes. That might have a part to play.

I'm saying this as somebody who's done a lot of "trying" in his time, and will probably be "trying" to do some things until the day he dies, and let me tell you, when people say they're "trying" to do something, it actually means that there's something they'd kinda, sorta, maybe like to do, but deep down it's really not important enough yet that it'll bother them if they don't. It's a cop-out, it's a pre-emptive excuse (I know I failed, but I tried!), and until they decide to move from "try" to "do" odds are they aren't going to get where they want to be. When something is really, really important to you, you stop trying, and you find a way to get it done... |

Salts a killer. Doc was giving me waterpills, but they started making me all ****ing light headed and shit. Told me to stopthem for a while.
Salt is the real killer, i completely avoid adding salt in my life. Cup o Noodles and Ramen have TONS of salt in it. Lean beef, Chicken, Fish with veggies and 1-2 peices of whole grain bread is going to be my life now. ![]() |

Im jumping into this thread really late, but I have been up and down in weight my whole life. In high school they wanted me around 280-290 for football, I was our starting LT for our team. Then in basketball they wanted me around 230, so I have been up and down for sports. I broke and dislocated my ankle my sophmore year in football, and decided to focus on hoops only, and I went from 290 to 215. Well I got back up in weight after school, my metabolism is killer slow, and if I don't remain active I can gain weight very easily. Anyways I started 3months ago at 6'6 (shade under) and 299lbs, and today weigh 245. No strict limitations, I just literally cut everything I ate by 3/4

I don't know if you know this but I had major shoulder surgery awhile back. I am going to try one last time to go back to jiu-jitsu after the first of the year. Jiu-jitsu, light lifting, yoga and cardio. If I had done light heavy to heavy instead of real heavy I would still be competing. Just saying. Enough of my rant. BTW, great to see you really getting into your program, it's obvious that you are really doing your due diligence. If you ever want to try something really challenging try cross-fit sometime. Some of the athletes that is developing are amazing.

I think I've learned my lesson about stretching finally. Now that all the back and knee problems have abated, I got the running going again yesterday and spent a good 10 minutes stretching before and after, which was a first for me. I hated every second of it and I was bored out of my mind, but I'm not the least bit sore today.
My problem is going to be what it's always been: trying to do too much too soon. So I've gone all the way back to week 1 of my jogging program, like I'm starting over. Because reality is that I am... Which ****ing sucks. But what can you do. |

I'd do it more often but 1) my gym isn't a Crossfit gym and doesn't always have the necessary equipment for the WODs and 2) most of it incorporates too much leg training for me right now. I can't play soccer 4 times a week AND train legs. It's just too much. It's nice every one in a while. |

BTW, soreness doesn't have much to do with stretching unless you injure yourself in some way. |

My new stretching regimen involves a single 30-second stretch for each or a dozen or so muscle groups, so that would actually match the findings outlined in your link. |
