When you are in the NFL or working as a security guard or whatever your future holds, the teams coach will still be there building the next edition of the team by recruiting the guy who's going to take your spot or, more likely, he will have moved on to a higher profile better paying job leaving behind a trail of broken promises and abandoned players..

That's true, though it's definately a reflection about how much it is about the coach. Particuarly in college, where it's about recruiting the talent, not (in theory) overpaying for it.
