Let your vehicle warm up in neutral, it gets the transmission lubed & ready, not just the engine.

for real? i'll have to start doing that. typically i let my car warm up for about 10 minutes and i cruise for the first couple of miles, by time i get to the highway my engine temp is up to 150 F so I feel comfortable driving then, usual engine temp under driving conditions is 180 F

That and NEVER try starting a manual shift WITHOUT pushing in the clutch past -15. (your only gonna tear up your starter pre-maturley)

I can count a few times up on the highway when the rookies from the south would do that. Shut em dowm in -15 saying "oh I got a cab heater" sure, but that 200lbs of sludge in your oil pan aint gonna be as toasty as your feet in the morning.
