The "I just got back from the gym" and this is what I have eaten thread.

Okay, so there are a ton of guys in here that are working out, trying to work out, or 'thinking' about working out.

So, I figured I would start a thread. I am all about making myself accountable. The more people that I tell about working out, the more people I would let down by not going.

If you go to the gym.... then post here when you get back. If you do P90X, post here when you get done. If you ride the excercise bike.... post it here.

Anything you do to get in shape.... share with the board. I know I have gotten some great advice and feedback.

Also, post what you eat. If you post everything you eat, and you know others will be critical, you may think twice before you grab a Twinkie.

Okay, so, I went to the gym. I did five minutes on the cross climber to warm up. I stretched for about three minutes.

Then, I did three sets of squats with just 135. I did back extensions and hanging leg lifts. Three sets each. I did leg curls, calf extensions, abductor and adductor excercises as well.

On my leg day, I do very light chest exercises to work on my explosive power. I do three sets of six pushups as explosively as I can. I throw the excercise ball up like a chest pass while laying on the bench.

Then, I finished off my workout with 30 minutes on the eliptical.

As far as my diet.

Breakfast two pieces of peanut butter whole wheat toast, protein shake, and banana.

I have had another banana, two yogurts, and a handful of cashews as snacks.

I didn't have a 'lunch' per se.

Kids had sloppy joes with lean beef (as if that makes it great).... I took a baked potato, and put a serving of sloppy joe over it, with jalapenos and 2 oz's of lowfat cheddar cheese.

I have also had shotgun with water, and synthesize with water.

I won't eat again before bed.

Okay, I know putting everything down here will open me up to criticism. I know some will think that I am doing things all wrong. I appreciate any advice, but I have done a lot of reading and talking to trainers.... so, I have an idea of what I am doing.... or at least what I think I am doing.

The point of this thread, isn't to get into pissing matches about how to do things.... but rather to give ourselves a gold star for making an effort.

Try not to beat anyone down on this thread, because this is about encouragement.

I'm at my target weight. It's all about maintenance from here on out.

I'm approaching my target of 165. I started at 130 (I got pneumonia and lost about 10 pounds). I'm just wondering if anybody else is actually trying to gain weight or if everyone's trying to lose it. When I tell people I'm trying to gain weight they think I'm crazy.

IMO, it's easier to judge it in terms of looks instead of numbers on a scale. No, I'm not where I want to be looks-wise or strength-wise, but I do not want to gain any more weight. I'd be way too big then.

Mostly all I eat is processed food which has the caloric info on the back. I work two jobs and go to school so what I eat is frozen or fast food.

Without going into details about my personal life, I got extremely sick for a few months and it really took a lot out of me. I'm out of treatment, but I have problems eating still. I was about 160 and now I'm 140 (over the last three months). But I have no appetite whatsoever. Like I said, I need to work on it. I try and eat some oatmeal before I go to work now, but sometimes it makes me nauseous to eat. I know its screwed up, but I have to work past it.

I'm starting my gym this week as soon as I get moved into my new apartment. I'm going to do a full-body workout twice a week, cause I can only find gym time for a couple of hours.

Squats
Straight-leg deadlifts
Crunches
Pulldowns
Bench Presses
Rows
Shoulder Presses
Upright Rows

I know that's a lot, but I think I can do it. If not, I'll split it up to a push/pull working each part once a week. I've developed a condition called Kyphosis over the last few months, so shoulder and back need to be worked out overtime. Especially rows.

The funny thing is I used to be best friends with a personal trainer, used to eat well and stay active. I KNOW what I need to do, I just have no strength and no appetite. My only issue is self-discipline which I'm finally getting to.

The sad thing is the women. Women say personality is all that matters, but I have seen an EXPONENTIAL drop in looks now that I have no shoulders, arms, lats or traps. I don't blame them though. Something about a guy with mildly winged scapulas and arched back seems unattractive (who would have thought?).

I don't think you are 'crazy'. When I was younger, I was trying to 'gain' weight. I was trying to get my body weight up to 200lbs. I was working out all the time, and I started at 165lbs. I fell way short, and quit lifting when I got out of the NAVY.

Then, I got married, got a desk job and quickly got to my 200lb goal. Only, the weight wasn't distributed quite the way I wanted. LOL.

I am at 185lbs now. I am trying to drop another 10lbs, while lifting to ensure that it is the right 10lbs.

After that, I assume that I will actually be gaining weight little by little. I would like to be 185lbs, and ripped. I don't know that it will happen. But, so long as I have decent muscle mass, and very little body fat, I don't care what the scale says.

Right now, I am using the scale so much because it gives me something concrete to work with. It is hard to tell in the mirror when you have lost a single pound. So, the scale helps me to be very concious of my food consumption.

How tall are you?

Sunday is my cheat day. And, for lunch I did have 10 buffalo wings. I drank tea and didn't have any fries though.

Last night, we were coming home from church and the kids wanted McDonalds. We have told the kids that they can McDonalds no more than once a month. Well, we hadn't been since October, and my youngest daugher put it together. So, I felt compelled to take them. They each had a burger, chocolate milk and apple dippers.

But, it was my cheat day.... and I wanted a Big Mac, Large Fries, Apple Pie and a Super Sized Coke to wash it all down. Only, I didn't do it. Instead, I drove to Panda Express, ordered off their wok smart menu, and got the firecracker chicken, mushroom chicken and mixed vegies(instead of fried rice), and washed it down with unsweetened white pear tea.

Anyways, as I was sitting there enjoying my mixed veggies.... I was just very proud of myself for not giving in to eating so poorly just because it was my 'cheat day'.

I am not swearing off Big Macs, or any other burger forever. But, I am glad that I have gotten to the point that my health is more important that my cravings.

Hey guys this may be off-topic, but thought I'd ask, has anybody here ever tried magnetic therapy?

The reason Im asking this is because I recently invested my money in a magnetic bracelet. I had no intentions to do this. I just simply did this out of pure randomness. I happened to be at the drug store with my sister the other day and noticed these bracelets on display. So I decided to purchase one because I heard several good things about it.

Sure enough, I tried it, and as far as Im concerned, its very effective. As a matter of fact, I conducted some research about these bracelets online and information was revealed to me that magnetic bracelets have a tendency to heal joint or muscle pain. Aside from this, they have other health benefits as well. I have joint pain in my right knee, and on occasion it feels as if it is going to blowup. VERY VERY painful. When I wore this bracelet, I've been wearing it for the past two days now, I've noticed it has alleviated the pain in my right knee.

*Just thought I'd share this with others

Gym has been closed since Thursday due to snow storm. Today was my first day back after sitting around inside eating and cooking shit for the last 4 days. It was completely brutal the amount of sweating I did. The wife has a charity party coming up on Thursday, so we've been cooking all sort of candies for it. That's just brutal on the diet. Anyway, I kicked my ass tonight.

3 sets of 5 on bench.
3 sets of increasing weight on pullups (used weight belt)
3 sets of increasing weight on dips (used weight belt)
Did the ladder circuit I've posted about elsewhere:
Overhead dumbbell press, overhead dumbbell lunges, single leg dumbbell dead lifts.
5 sets of 5 renegade rows
Rotating circuit of:
3 sets of 10 sumo high lifts
3 sets of 10 box jumps (2 ft. box)
3 sets of planks

And I was ready to puke at that point.

I ordered the new Brooks adrenaline GTS 10's in black. Two week lead time. Can't wait, i've ran in them, they're WAY tech'd out - vs the GTS 9's, plus they're low riders, which is awesome if you don't want a bulky kick.

I have a buddy who is big into Cross Fit so I gave the routine a try tonight. I've been really slacking on cardio tonight so it truly kicked my ace. I think I might give it a try for a bit to force some cardio into my workouts. They mix it up everyday and the guys who are into it are pretty freakin cut. Check out crossfit.com if you're interested. The other plus is they are pretty fast workouts since you're trying to go for speed to, so I spent a lot less time at the gym.
