Goff History

CHIEFS RELEASE G MIKE GOFF, RE-SIGN QB MATT GUTIERREZ & RB KOLBY SMITH

The Kansas City Chiefs announced on Wednesday that the club has released G Mike Goff. The Chiefs also re-signed QB Matt Gutierrez and RB Kolby Smith.

Goff (6-5, 311) has played in 171 games (154 starts) during his 12-year NFL career with Cincinnati ('98-03), San Diego (2004-08) and Kansas City (2009). The Peru, Illinois native saw duty in eight games (seven starts) for the Chiefs a year ago. The University of Iowa product entered the NFL as a third-round choice (78th overall) of Cincinnati in the '98 NFL Draft.

Gutierrez (6-4, 230) has appeared in six regular season NFL contests with New England (2007-08) and Kansas City (2009). The Chiefs claimed Gutierrez off waivers from the Patriots last season. He entered the NFL as a rookie free agent with New England in 2007. The Concord, California native transferred to Idaho State as a senior after earning three varsity letters at Michigan.

Smith (5-11, 219) has seen action in 27 games (nine starts) in three seasons with Kansas City (2007-09). He owns 162 carries for 540 yards with three TDs, as well as 34 receptions for 209 yards and nine special teams tackles. The Tallahassee, Florida native produced his finest pro game with a 31-carry, 150-yard, two-TD performance vs. Oakland (11/25/07). Smith entered the NFL as the first of the Chiefs two selections in the fifth round (148th overall) of the 2007 draft out of Louisville.

I like that we kept Smith. He atleast gives us good depth as a 3rd string.

I will be severely dissapointed if they don't bring back the versatile W. Smith. IIRC he started at C, G and T for them this year... I think he is quality insurance.
