The "I just got back from the gym" and this is what I have eaten thread.

Okay, so there are a ton of guys in here that are working out, trying to work out, or 'thinking' about working out.

So, I figured I would start a thread. I am all about making myself accountable. The more people that I tell about working out, the more people I would let down by not going.

If you go to the gym.... then post here when you get back. If you do P90X, post here when you get done. If you ride the excercise bike.... post it here.

Anything you do to get in shape.... share with the board. I know I have gotten some great advice and feedback.

Also, post what you eat. If you post everything you eat, and you know others will be critical, you may think twice before you grab a Twinkie.

Okay, so, I went to the gym. I did five minutes on the cross climber to warm up. I stretched for about three minutes.

Then, I did three sets of squats with just 135. I did back extensions and hanging leg lifts. Three sets each. I did leg curls, calf extensions, abductor and adductor excercises as well.

On my leg day, I do very light chest exercises to work on my explosive power. I do three sets of six pushups as explosively as I can. I throw the excercise ball up like a chest pass while laying on the bench.

Then, I finished off my workout with 30 minutes on the eliptical.

As far as my diet.

Breakfast two pieces of peanut butter whole wheat toast, protein shake, and banana.

I have had another banana, two yogurts, and a handful of cashews as snacks.

I didn't have a 'lunch' per se.

Kids had sloppy joes with lean beef (as if that makes it great).... I took a baked potato, and put a serving of sloppy joe over it, with jalapenos and 2 oz's of lowfat cheddar cheese.

I have also had shotgun with water, and synthesize with water.

I won't eat again before bed.

Okay, I know putting everything down here will open me up to criticism. I know some will think that I am doing things all wrong. I appreciate any advice, but I have done a lot of reading and talking to trainers.... so, I have an idea of what I am doing.... or at least what I think I am doing.

The point of this thread, isn't to get into pissing matches about how to do things.... but rather to give ourselves a gold star for making an effort.

Try not to beat anyone down on this thread, because this is about encouragement.

Well, I went and did another chest workout. I really did mail it in on Monday, so I went at it hard today. Got mad that I couldn't get 210 once, and I hit the bar. I already have a bruise on my palm. It was not easy to work after that. But, I got through it and I feel pretty good about it.

I missed a coworker's b'day party last weekend, so he gave me a makeup day for St. Patty's. I ended up going out with him tonight after doing my scheduled workout. I wore tennis shoes and comfortable jeans and "walked" out. I ended up running pretty much the whole way downtown and back, which is over 4 miles total. It was sort of weird running with a buzz (on the way there after a glass of wine with dinner... and much more on the way back after hitting the bars), but I enjoyed it in a perverse way.

I just couldn't stand to walk that whole distance without really getting my cardio going... so yeah. That's the kind of weirdo I am. After 6 beers and a whiskey at the bar... I run home.

I honestly ran the flats and downhills and walked the uphills (I live in a seriously hilly town). But it wasn't that hard. Really fun on the downhills. The flats were much harder because my body just kept wanting to slow down and walk. I just kept making it go... and that became fun in itself.

I'd rather run uphill than downhill. So much more pressure on your knees going downhill

True, though my knees weren't really my main concern at the time.

Workouts buffs, lol

silock, dreaminboutsunday, anyone with knowledge and expertise, Im seeking some advice and was wondering if you could help me?

Dude, I got some pain in my knee, don't know what it is exactly? It feels like a sharp pain under the knee cap in my right knee. Im worried it may be chrondomalacia patella.

Which is the wearing of the cartilage under the patella of the knee over time. Now, I do a lot of Squats and Leg Presses or even exercises like deadlifts. Im really scared, Im in my early 30's and have been working out for 10+ years, I think this originated due to excessive amounts of squatting over the years, I do heavy poundages from time to time for strength and power building purposes. I do squats just because I find there is no other exercise that can act as a substitute when its comes to building total body strength and power. Im huge on that.

Now, Im aware that the most sensible thing to do, is to NOT do heavy squatting cause that would probably cause further wear and tear on the area but Im a stubborn person...lol

Is there anything I could do to work around this? I was thinking of wearing wraps around my knees when I do heavy squats, but then, I find those to be counterproductive? Even though one may be able to lift more weight with the wraps, the wraps have a tendency to absorb the stress that comes from the load of heavy squats and actually reduce the hydrostatic pressure which is good. But, because of the absorbtion of stress, the tissues around the knees don't become strengthen which is bad. It's a total catch 22.

does anybody have any suggestions? If worst comes to worst, I am going to use the wraps as a last resort.

*Im scared because the worse this gets, eventually it develops into arthritis.

The only thing I've been told: are you doing a ton of bodyweight warmup squats prior to doing them with a load? Your knees, from what I understand, need to get warmed up and lubricated even more than other parts of your body prior to lifting. Also found this that covers a lot of stuff (including what to eat):
http://stronglifts.com/10-tips-to-st...-and-cracking/

I'm sure Silock or someone else will have more and better information.
