Now come on, dude. Herm stupidly hitched his own wagon to Croyle's glass body.

And Carl never drafted a franchise QB...didn't even try.

Exactly right, but in either case they wouldn't have brought in Cassel.

I don't know why anyone thinks that the Baltimore game was anything to write home about. I didn't remember it being that good and I think people have a tendancy to look at just the stats. Since everyone keeps talking about it I decided to take a look at ESPN's recap of the game, just to see how well he did.

My conclusion: Those that are in love with him are because he is the backup and they hate Cassel. Brodie did nothing spectacular in that game. He was really very ordinary. We benefited from a couple of big turnovers where we wouldn't have been in the game otherwise. As some have said, "he didn't shit himself", but he didn't do a whole lot either.

Our time of possession was 20:11 and we punted 5 times. Not exactly sustaining drives.

We scored once on a Jon McGraw blocked punt, where he recovered it for a TD.
We scored once following a DJ interception, that he returned to Baltimores 6, and Brodie ultimately threw a 2 yard TD to Bowe, thanks to a Baltimore "illegal use of hands" penalty after a incomplete pass.

He threw another incompletion later where the play was called back for "roughing the passer".

ESPN's game log labels each passing play as "deep" or "short".

He threw "short" 24 times in all, 2 were called back for penalties on the defense.

Everyone talks about his strong arm, yet he threw "deep" only twice in the game. The one 50 yard completion to Bradley and an incomplete pass to Ryan to end the game. Thanks to his rocket of an arm he picked up 50 yards on one pass, getting us to the Baltimore 34, then he threw 2 incompletions and we had to kick a 53 yard field goal.

He gained 65 of his 177 yards and 1 TD pass on the next drive. Solid drive, he threw 7 straight passes, completing 5. Both incompletions were to Bradley, and one was called back with a 15 yard penalty for roughing the passer.

We got the ball in the 2nd quarter with 3:49 on the clock at our own 31 and failed to get past Baltimores 47 yard line. Brodie threw 3 times for 32 yards on the drive and the half ended. It didn't help that we had a 5 yard holding penalty and 2 runs for negative yardage.

He was sacked 3 times in all and lost 22 yards.

In the 4th quater, he was sacked twice on one drive where we started at our own 21 yard line. He fumbled both times he was sacked. The first one was overturned and we maintanied possession, but lost 8 yards. Then he threw 2 incomplete passes, 1 to Bowe and 1 to Ryan. Then he got sacked a second time, they recovered and their offense scored a TD.

We got the ball back with 31 seconds on the clock on our own 34, he threw 2 short passes for 12 yards, getting us up to the 46. Deep incomplete pass to Sean Ryan to end the game.

I'm a fair guy and I like Brodie, but I don't think his performance was anything to suggest that he would do better than Cassel if given the opportunity.

Croyle played decent against Baltimore. A recap doesn't do the game justice.

I think RB has a point, though.

He played ok, but nothing stands out about his performace, except that he didn't shit his pants and he made it through the game without breaking his vagina.

But Brodie does have the kind of talent that Weis could make the most from, if he could make it through more than a couple of games.

Funny thing is I still have hope for Brodie and think Weis could do wonders with him. I think we could actually see him develop into a good QB, but as someone else said he'd have to bulk up some. He's been a twig his whole career (college & NFL) and the knock on him has always been that he needs to gain some weight to absorb some hits. I wouldn't not draft someone because he's on the roster. I'd love to have a John Skelton in the 4th or 5th, if he actually was available.

Brodie tore his ACL in college and was never a high completion % guy at Alabama. He got sacked a ton in college, so those that think Cassel is bad (about getting sacked) need to realize that Brodie is too and can't hold up when he does.

He sucked it up in his last 3 games at Alabama and got sacked 19 times.

No, I think RalphyBoy pretty much surmized the game as it was. Croyle has a quick release, but other than that, he's back-up material.

Which is better than what we have as our starter.

Choose to remember whatever you want. If Cassel's suck factor was so bad that you choose to think Croyle is an upgrade then by all means, go right ahead and think that, but it doesn't make it true.

He directed one TD drive.

He was lucky to have an INT return to the Baltimore 6 and got another.

We also punted 5 times, he was sacked 3 times and fumbled the ball away in the 4th quarter with under 2 minutes to go.

With 3:49 on the clock in the 2nd half, starting on our own 31, he completed 3 of 3 passes, all short passes for 11, 1 & a short pass that Jamal Charles gained 20 on. He threw a short pass, from the Baltimore 48, to Charles who gained 20 but got tackled to end the half.

Why didn't he use his rocket arm to throw it into, or closer to, the endzone? Seriously, I don't remember. I'm sure we had a receiver farther than 20 yards downfield. My guess is that he didn't want to throw a pick so he didn't take a shot. Maybe Suggs was closing in on him and he had to dump it off, I wish I could recall.

If he didn't take the shot because he was afraid of the pick, then he was just as guilty as Cassel was, early in the season, for not taking a chance. We all complained early on that Cassel was afraid to throw a pick, so he didn't take any chances. He was 7&2 in TD/INT ratio thru the first 5 games. Then all hell broke loose and he went 9&14 the rest of the way.

Be careful what you wish for.

Cassel's stats by month:
Sept 66.7%, 3 TD 2 INT, 5 sacks, 84.8 QB rating
Oct 49.6%, 5 TD 3 INT, 19 sacks, 68.1 QB rating
Nov 56.7%, 5 TD 2 INT, 11 sacks, 83.7 QB rating
Dec 53.7%, 3 TD 8 INT, 7 sacks, 54.1 QB rating
Jan 54.2%, 0 TD 1 INT, 0 sacks, 65.8 QB rating

I don't disagree with your analysis of the game, but I find it funny how many people argued, passionately I might add, at the time that the team played really well at Baltimore.

Those who disagreed were blind "haters."
