Mayock on McCluster at the Senior Bowl...

I always record the Senior Bowl to watch after the draft to see the players we drafted. This year there are 3. All on the South roster. Arenas, McCluster, and Sheffield.

At the top of the show, Mayock is talking about 3 players that really caught his eye. Wilson from Boise State, Iupati from Idaho, and McCluster. Here is what he said about Mccluster...

"And finally the wow factor. Dexter McCluster, 5-8, 165. He is a lightning rod of opinion, but he is a playmaker at tailback where he will start today. But where he blew me away was at wide receiver. His route running. His hands. You can line him up anywhere you want. And really his only limitations, in my mind, is the creativity of whatever offensive coordinator that is lucky enough to get him."

Im assuming you all saw the profootballweekly article stating that the Eagles were "shocked" when we took McCluster just before they were going to draft him with the next pick! Feels good to bone another team for a change...

this guy has really good hands and can get separation from the guys that will be covering him ( LB's NB's) thats what is going to create mismatches for the teams the chiefs play this season and hopefully translate into some big time plays from this guy

I've been stoked every since they called his name. I'm like everybody else in regards to the draft though and I was looking for prototype players playing conventional positions. I love this pick though. We needed a playmaker and we got the biggest(albeit one of the smallest in size) ones in the draft.

Word on the street is that the Eagles were stunned that Dexter McCluster went to the Chiefs at 36, as they had hoped to take him one pick later.

Instead, the Eagles filled a need at free safety, taking Nate Allen, a player whose tackling issues probably were the only thing that kept him out of Round One.

Back to McCluster: I think the Chiefs will use him as much as a slot receiver and returner as they will as a runner. With Jamaal Charles and Thomas Jones there, they don't need McCluster slamming his 170-pound frame into the line more than a few times a game. He's excellent in space, making people miss. He can take snaps from the Wildcat, take end arounds and even can throw the ball once or twice a season.

If he can be half as valuable as Wes Welker was for Matt Cassel, then the Chiefs got a great player here. And McCluster, remember, spent a good portion of his college career as a receiver, only moving to running back in the second half of his senior season.

The Eagles love this kind of speed in the draft. They want another back to add a different dimension to LeSean McCoy and Mike Bell. The Chiefs taking McCluster stung a little. The Eagles will look for another fast back somewhere in the draft.

Oh, and Allen's pick means he's the third safety off the board. Meanwhile, Taylor Mays continues to wait somewhere to hear his name.

I dont really care how he performs on the field. He could be out of the leage in 3 years for all I care.

Just the knowledge that we 'stunned' the Eagles franchise will make this pick worthwhile forever.

Now that the draft is over... I'm really warming up to this kid.
That footage of his 282-yard day against Tennessee is amazing.
He's electric.
