I tore my patellar tendon a few years ago and had part of it removed in a surgery. It was very sore for over a year. If its' the same for him, he'll have trouble squatting, bending and the strength in that leg won't be right for a long time.

If its' like mine, it'll never be the same again, though I'm sure he's got top notch rehab assistance that I didn't.

Clady is an offensive lineman not a WR, this injury will not hinder him at all. Mark Schlereth had dozens of surgeries on his knees and sometimes he would play in games just a week after them.

Patella Tendon

What is a Patellar Tendon Rupture?

The patellar tendon is prone to rupturing in individuals with a history of patellar tendon injury such as jumpers knee or degeneration due to age. Injuries of this type serve to weaken the patellar tendon and in the event of strong eccentric quadriceps contraction (contraction during lengthening of the muscle), such as landing from jump, the patella tendon may snap or rupture most commonly at the lower end of the patella.

Corticosteroid injections given to address the inflammation seen in patellar tendonopathies (i.e. jumpers knee) are also known to predispose the individual to ruptures.
Signs and Symptoms of patellar tendon rupture:

* Patellar tendon ruptures are extremely painful and may be accompanied with an audible 'pop' at the time of injury
* Swelling of the knee
* Inability to weight-bear
* Inability to straighten the knee or hold it in a straightened position

Treatment for Patella Tendon Rupture

What can the athlete do?

* Apply RICE technique as soon as possible.
* Take NSAID's (e.g. Ibuprofen) for pain relief and to help decrease swelling.
* Seek professional medical assistance immediately.

Treatment & Rehabilitation

* In most cases the patellar tendon becomes completely ruptured across its width and thus surgical intervention is required to repair the damage. This involves suturing (stitching) the torn tendon.
* Following surgery the patient will be advised on a specific rehabilitation plan which normally involves little or no weight-bearing on the affected knee and wearing a knee brace to prevent the knee from bending. This may be required for more than 6 weeks.
* Once the knee brace has been removed exercises to regain full range of movement and build up the strength of the quadriceps muscle group should be carried out.

Rehabilitation from a patellar tendon rupture is extremely slow and it may take between 6 and 12 months before the patient is able to return to sports.

You don't know how severe it is. There are different grades of tears and Clady said it wasn't that bad.

Because the tendon was only 50 percent torn, Clady is expected to be out for three months and will be able to play again in four months, meaning he will likely miss the entire preseason. The team is hopeful Clady will be ready in the regular season opener in Jacksonville on Sept. 12.

More nonsense. I actually never like to see players get hurt but to dismiss this as nothing significant is just another one of your absurd takes.

He might have played a couple of weeks after a scope, but I guaran'f-n-tee he wouldn't play a week after patellar surgery. I've had jumper's knee with a rupture....If it's a 50% tear, which is pretty much what I had....his knee will not feel or work right for quite a while, and it'll be sore as shit to the touch for a year if its anything like mine was.

Keep dreaming, Tamba Hali got hard when he heard this news.

Like you said earlier, he will have access to better rehab than you did. He is also only 23 years old, he will heal quickly.

Rehab has little to do with this. Being 23 has little to do with this. A tendon injury is much, much different than a broken bone or pulled muscle. Especially one like the patella which has a tremendous amount of strain on it even on a normal sized human being.

He will have troubles with it the rest of his life. I was back running 6 months after surgery with a lot of pain. After about a year the everyday pain was gone. That was 7 years ago. On occasion it will still swell up with no warning.

I was 19 when mine hit, and I'm a workout freak so rehabbing came second nature.
