They could use the money that they made in the last six months to soak it all up.

I'm thankfully moving back to MO in a week, but right now I live in the Florida panhandle. The oil has not gotten to the beaches here yet, but it is likely just a matter of time. The hotels, resorts, and restaurants are all in full panic down here now. It has also ruined the offshore fishing and that pisses me off.

It also pisses me off that the video posted above was filmed in the same county I live in right now. While the idea of using hay/straw may not be the worst idea, seeing Jim-Bob in his bib overalls probably won't instill confidence in the potential tourists. I mean, why go all the way to Florida when you can go to Alabama and see guys that look like that?

You know what pisses me off? assholes like you who dismiss "jim-bob" because he's in working man's clothes. Some of the most inventive, creative, solution makers on this planet are "jim bob" farmers. I've got an uncle who if he put his mind to it could probably build a solar car with duct tape, bailing wire, pliers, a wire welder and some scrap iron.

It was more of a statement about the fact that it seems to be the only video played in every media outlet, than it was about what he was wearing. It went from a 1 minute report on the local news here to nationwide coverage simply because everyone gets a snicker about how the man is dressed. I grew up in Missouri and my father, grandfather and uncle were all farmers and I worked with them all the way until I enlisted in the military and left the area.

Indeed, I have to agree. Who gives a rats ass what a man is wearing for clothes, if they can come up with an idea that stops some of the damage. As I stated before, I just hope someone's idea works sooner, rather than later.

My idea is pretty solid and I think a 99% chance it will work. I don't think the pressure will be a factor because my idea neutralizes it. The only thing is that it will take a certain device that already exists but not to fit a 22" pipe so one will have to be made. This idea popped in my head about 3:00 this morning. One of those Ahaaaa moments. I found out how to get it to them and had it submitted by 4:00.

I hope it does work. Try to document it someplace (other than their web page) if you can, so you can get some credit for your idea in the event it does stop the flow.

Good luck!

Yes. When you're farming, especially livestock and something goes wrong you have to find a way to make it work again often "Right Now", there may be many lives depending on you. Most people are way too smart to be able to farm because they lack common sense and ingenuity.

Nothing much worth adding to this statement, you pretty much summed that one up. I can't really buy you a beer over the intrawebs, so I'll just do the rep thingy instead.

I use to visit Niceville/Destin as often as I could. The locals were hillbillies of sorts, but you never had to worry about locking your doors.

I would hate to see this mess reach the white sandy shores of Destin, Fl, that place is beautiful. There are several theories out there about how bad this really is, but on one is giving the same answer. Does anyone know how truly bad this is going to be for us? It seems this is going to be the worse oil accident in history. Forgive me if the answer is obvious, I have been working on finals, not watching television.
