welllll it worked like its suppose to work today. Thats 3 out of 4 games played up to their potential since the road disaster in Cincy. Maybe they will get it turned around now?

And after a monumental collapse from cincy today (7 runs in the 9th to lose 10-9), the Cards are back in first.

The 'reigning world champs' managed to win an exhibition series between two leagues that have different rules.

Imagine if the AFC decided to allow QBs a 'five mississippi' count and then had the rules determined by something as arbitrary as the location of the Super Bowl (which was determined by the winner of the pro-bowl).

I care about the NL pennant. The World Series stopped mattering once they installed the DH. The divisional format and the wild card made it matter that much less.

You can have your softball.

Amazing how fans of AL teams fail to realize what the DH did to change the game.

The World Series still matters to me, and the Cardinals winning in 2006 was the greatest team moment I've ever experienced as a fan.

That said, the DH gives the AL a huge competitive advantage, because all-hit, no-field guys have an entire league where they can ply their trade with none of their deficiencies held against them save for 10 games a year. They also have the advantage of being able to watch tape while the game is going on (which is a ****ing joke).

Guys like David Ortiz and Edgar Martinez aren't baseball players. They're just hitters.

Suddenly I realized that I was far more excited by the pennant wins than the WS victory.

It just felt like an exhibition both times. When the Red Sox are running Ortiz out there to take ABs that the Cardinals are dedicating to some combination of So Taguchi and/or Reggie Sanders, you know something just isn't right.

The two teams play completely different styles of basebal for 162 games and then they throw them together for 7 games and say the winner is the world champion? **** that.

Nope. I want the pennant. The national recognition that comes with the WS is fine, but the pennant is what I care about most of all.
