The worst part of this is that the cop will probably face some sort of discipline so that the Police Department can save face.

I think we hold police officers to a standard higher than most of us could achieve. The reality is that they are human, and deal with crap day in and day out.

She clearly assaulted the police officer. I don't understand why anyone is upset that she got punched in the face.

The reason people are giving is because this incident began with the officer citing these kids for jaywalking, and according to some jaywalking should be ignored. Some people have latched on to the idea that she was punched for jaywalking, which is completely false.

Whether anyone likes it or not it or not Jaywalking is illegal in the same way that driving with a single, busted brake light is illegal. I don't think I should be cited for driving with a brake light out because it's really not that dangerous, but I accept that it is an infraction of the law no matter how trivial it seams to me. I would certainly not say or do anything to an officer that could be in any way be interpreted as a violent act.

Being cited by a police officer for an infraction that most people find trivial does not justify sociopathic, violent behavior toward authority. This woman (she is 19 and therefore a legal adult) has displayed a history of sociopathic behavior toward authority on more than one occasion. I just can't see how it can be excused because it began with the officer citing SOMEONE ELSE for jaywalking. This incident began with jaywalking but is about jaywalking no more. People, let go of the jaywalking part of the story and focus on what really happened. Violence against the police should not be tolerated under any circumstances where the police are legally enforcing the law.
