I'd be willing to bet that in two/three years the Chiefs secondary will be considered one of the best in the league.

I agree, Flowers, Berry, Carr, and another good safety will be a great secondary, especially with a good nickel which Arenas could be, or Carr if Arenas beats him out

Hell, I would be willing to bet that the pass rush's #s are going to go up regardless of them getting any better. This secondary has the makings of an OCs worst nightmare. |

it's funny--when we improve the front seven, we claim the coverage will get better. when we improve our d-backfield, we say the pressure will get better. neither is true per se: the absolute truth is that it takes both to succeed in the nfl as a dominating defense. let's hope crennel can work some magic, turn t-jack into a player, and somehow get some pressure from somebody not named tamba hali.

Well if the d-line gets an extra second or two of coverage time they will get more sacks without increased pressure.

You get pressure on the QB by having studs up front and a Defensive Coordinator that unleashes them.
Coverage sacks happen about as often as an accurate pass from Cassel. |

yeah, but if they blow ass it won't matter how many extra seconds they get; if qbs have all day to throw, they'll pick ANY secondary apart. this is why it has to be a combination in today's nfl... front seven and defensive backfield; if one is great, the other has to be able to carry its weight.

and I remember when our secondary wasn't all that great, but we had a decent to good front seven.
remember the days of 'well, if we collapse the pocket, it'll cover for bartee's shittiness!' yeah, I do too. it can't be one or the other, folks. it has to be both. |

I believe that a secondary should do two things: Stop the deep ball and jump routes.
The way the NFL is geared today (all toward for the offense), a coverage secondary is going to get killed with penalties, and if they don't get penalized they are going to allow seperation. There has to be a front 7 that will put pressure on the QB and make him either throw a ball he didn't want to throw or take the sack. |
