I think everyone on CP should just get together and have a big brawl over Cassel, draftpicks, whatever else is hotly discussed.

To show you how much anyone respects the Chiefs throwing the ball very far,,

In a preseason game the Eagles played their safeties about as shallow as I can remember a team playing safeties,

Agreed and that is a very big reason why the inside run D seemed to be collapsing on the run better, even despite their talent problems in the middle. To no surprise, the one play where Jackson was badly out of position (as well as Mays and McGraw), boom, McCoy runs an 18-yard gut into the end zone.

If Cassel turns out to progress into an average quarterback under Weis, we can win 8 games

If Cassel doesnt progress like a normal human being can under premium coaching, we wont win more than 5.

Really simple as that, even given the deficiencies in the front 7 ...which I see taking major steps forward during the course of the year if they can stay healthy and continue to work at it. I can see Dorsey, DJ, Belcher, Hali and Studebaker surprisingg a lot of folks here by seasons end.

But lets call a spade a spade, that draft was about trying to make Matt Cassel look like he's not an epic **** up, Get him a guy to run little routes even though teams will sit on it mixed with a returner to give him field position since he can't lead drives because he throws it 3 yards.

Personally it makes my day to know we have to draft players because our GM doesn't want to look stupid for trading for an inept QB.
ALL OF THIS.

It's one thing to give your QB some weapons and protection, its a completely different thing when you spend as many high draft picks as we did to make up for horrible QB play.

Looking at all of the players we added to make Cassel look better: Lilja, Weigman, Jones, DMC, Arenas (the returner), Asamoah, Moeaki.

Looking at the players we added to improve against the run: Shaun Smith
Looking at the players we added to improve our pass rush: Sheffield

Yeah that is an oversimplification/stretch of the facts, but you get the point.

That is something giving me hope is that the front seven is pretty young outside of NT and maybe they can actually progress even maybe dramatically

Jason, I'm pretty tired of this excuse.

I've watched nearly every preseason game to date and most of the teams are running their full offenses, many with great success.

I don't see teams like Cincy, Indy, Green Bay, New England, New Orleans, Oakland, 49ers, Seahawks, Chargers or Denver making excuses.

The Chiefs offense has been bad, just as bad as its defense. It's amazing to me that people will ignore this and instead, prefer to use the "Pre-Season Excuse".

Also, to be fair, Arenas will help our pass rush a lot too. As will adding Berry and Lewis in the secondary.

It's a complete oversimplification of the facts.

We walked into the offseason with a shitty defense and a shitty offense. In an uncapped year, our best shot at free agents were free agents that we didn't have a shot at and 7 draft picks.

If they chose defense, they would have ignored a shitty offense. If they chose offense, which they did, they would have ignored a shitty defense.

We were going to suck on one side of the ball no matter what our strategy.
