Even while McCluster succeeds, this continues to be my concern about that pick...

He is a gadget guy, yes. Who can provide tons of different things for your offense. And he's someone who can contribute immediately.

But is he someone you can build around?

I hesitate still, even now, to say yes.

What's the track record of really small football players in the NFL?

Don't they typically peter out after a few years? Even if they are very good -- as Sproles, a thicker back than McCluster, was very good -- won't they eventually flame out in a few years, rather than providing the sustained level of ability that virtually any other position on the football field would?

I am prepared to endure your scorn.

He's been hurt, and inactive for the first 3 weeks (dont know if he played last week). He has a horrid work ethic and that was one of my biggest problems taking him in the first 2 rounds.
I saw him play last week and was being blocked 1-1 by Pouncey.

It's not as if he was a top ten, or even a first round pick.....holy cripes, the draft is a crap-shoot. McCluster, if he can stay healthy and maintain anything near his current "production" will have been a very good pick. That ain't rocket science; look at the average career of 2nd round picks.

Who the hell thinks that?

Except a few lame/young/homer fans who are still wet behind the ears....

McCluster was a bad pick because his body type is such that he might not have a long career. We should have drafted Cody instead. There's a guy that's not a risk to break down.

Nobody thinks that. This team was plenty of issues, but the 2010 draft class isn't one of them.

Eric Berry is playing well and contributing, but couldn't KC have grabbed a run stuffing strong safety in the second round? Someone like TJ Ward or Burnett?

You can play this game with just about any player.

What game is this? The one where we pretend that rare talents like Berry are something other than they are?

The game of questioning every draft pick that you didn't originally like.
Berry has been a bigger liability than McCluster at this point.

That what I was thinking. I was going to ask for an example of any post that even remotely insinuates that this team is "fixed".

I think It would be silly to ignore the fact that this team is dramatically improved though.

Dude Eric Berry's ceiling is up there with the best safeties to ever play the game. When you have an opportunity to get a guy like that, you do not pass on it.

This team's run defense isn't improved simply through the addition of Crennel and the improvement of some players up front.

Berry has been a huge addition to that aspect of the defense.

Anyone who actually has a clue would know that.

Liability.

It is pretty hard for McCluster to be a liability the way that he's been used. Not that I expect him to be a liability or anything.

Not that Berry has been that much of a liability. He's given up two scores but he's also been instrumental in the team not giving up a bunch more.

Berry has been given far more responsibility in this defense than any rookie safety should be asked to, and he has made two glaring rookie mistakes.

But his play has otherwise been a big part of this defense's overall improvement.
