Local weather douches who interrupt football games
I realize severe weather warnings are a big deal, but this self important dickbag yesterday kept interrupting during the 4th quarter of yesterdays late game between the Pats and Chargers. If you want to run a scroll at the bottom of the screen fine. You want to cut in briefly at commercial break, fine but there is no excuse for prattling on and on while showing off your various satellite weather maps when there is a football game on that has divisional implications.

Did you read the linked article? It basically apologized for not going to a split-screen sooner. I think it's entirely reasonable to have a split-screen showing the coming storm's track. It's like complaining about the tornado siren waking you up.

Yes, I read it, and I was responding more to the "we're committed to your safety...blah blah blah" nonsense.

Look, I find storms fascinating and I often do watch the coverage (which is the real reason they insist on putting it on), but I know damn well my safety is in my own hands and no one else's.

Yes, I believe part of the reason they do this is to pimp their weather coverage in hopes that you'll more likely tune in to their news broadcasts.

Christ, if there's a threat in my immediate vicinity, the game becomes irrelevant to me and I will take the necessary measures to ensure me and my family's safety. But if the threat is two freakin' counties away there's no good reason for me to not be able to watch the game.

The problem is that they come on gettin' all up in the air waaaaay too much. I honestly just tune them out now because it's almost become like the boy that cried wolf. If they would only break in when it's REALLY important I might pay more attention. It may not be the smartest thing in the world but when I hear sirens going off I just go back to sleep. I know, I know, you all will be saying "I told you so" when I find myself lying under a bunch of rubble one night. Oh well.

I'm not even saying to not cut away at any time. There's absolutely no reason to stay on the air for that length of time going over the same satellite weather maps over and over again. I'm not familiar with the news station Bob Dole is referring to but the local cbs affiliate interrupted the game twice without the courtesy of a split screen. I noticed that ABC kept running Americas funniest home videos uninterrupted while this alleged weather crises was occuring. They pull this shit because they are self important douchebags who don't care what they have to interrupt in order to have an audition tape ready so they can move on to a bigger media market.
