I don't give a rat's ass if we run the ball 60 times a game, I want to have confidence that the QB can make plays when it comes to him needing to make plays, and we haven't seen any evidence to suggest that he can do that.

I'm talking about late game situations when he needs to make a pass to win, or seal a win.

JFC, how many times does it have to be pointed out that the O-Line, as bad as it was, wasn't solely responsible for the number of sacks he took last year.

His sack numbers for 15 1/2 game for New England were higher than the sack numbers that Brady took the season before, and the season after, combined.

Cassel was every bit as responsible for the 45 sacks he suffered last year as the O-Line.

Well maybe we will find out if he has what it takes in the remaining 10 games... Cause right now, we havent had that situation yet...

And lets not drag Houston into the discussion.... The Defense totally shit the bed and Haley/Weis decided to be super cute instead of winning the football game.

So as much as I would hate to be in that situation, I would rather know if he can or cant before postseason begins.

Houston does get dragged into this, because even with the defense shitting the bed, Cassel had a chance to seal that win on a third and two pass play (which you seem to think was "cute", but the Chiefs had been stuffed on running plays in short yardage situations consistently all day), and he shit the bed.

Yes it was way to "cute" for that time in the game... along with the TE breaking the route off running backwards down the field... It was fail from the word go....

And we werent getting stuffed all day on the short runs, We ran a few 4 and shorts during the game and converted them, IIRC.... I Have the game on the Tivo, I could go back and count up how many we did convert if need to...

But to run something that required a pass across the field, with your TE running backwards, was just way to cute...

We have before that game and during that game completed some key 3rd downs that didnt involve some trickery or backwards running TEs...

Anyway, we still have 10 games to see what he has, at some point we will need him to deliver, Can he? Will he? I dont know, nobody but the Chiefs coaching staff and Cassel know...

We will just speculate and try to form opinions as fact...

Yep.

For all the shit the defense has gotten over that loss, no one wants to talk about the fact they were on the field for all but 55 seconds of the last 7 minutes of the game.

3 play, 8 yard drives consuming 55 seconds doesn't exactly help the defense.

Cassel had one throw...he blew it, sure, but it's not all that uncommon. He had been completing third downs all day and got poor protection on this particular play.

Brady and the Pats had 4 downs against the Chargers and almost blew the game. Rivers was in a situation where he needed just one more first down against the Raiders and lost the game. Your beloved Rodgers, at home against a rival in a huge game, couldn't hold the ball against the Vikings and was 1 foot away from blowing the game. And while these guys have "done it before", Cassel will get more opportunities now that he's on a team capable of winning.

Stop being so irrational. That game was on the D. Go ahead and label me a "ballwasher"---a label that shouldn't exist on cp--- but I've stated my opinion on Cassel numerous times and it's not a good one. This doesn't mean he shouldn't get some credit (and for more than just protecting the ball). I think his ceiling just may be a bit higher than I thought around week 2 or so.

It's Ok if Rivers or Brady miss throws.

You thought he could be the highest rated passer in the league for a 4 week span? Interesting, I was never that optimistic.

I still think he could be making more plays...he can't keep up this pace of mistake-free football. If this is his ceiling, he sucks. I've seen a few flashes that I like

The Chiefs offense had scored on the previous 4 drives for 24 points. All they needed was one stop out of the D in the 4th to win that game, but go ahead and blame Cassel for the loss.

hey, resting while your offense puts up 25 first downs can wear your defense out.

JFC, how many times does it have to be pointed out that the O-Line, as bad as it was, wasn't solely responsible for the number of sacks he took last year.

You keep trying to lay the blame for those sacks from last year on Cassel by citing to what happened in his first season as a stater. It's just not an accurate 1:1 comparison. The first half of that season, Cassel was sacked 28 times, with 233 passes attempted. The second half of that season, Cassel was sacked 17 times, with 283 passes attempted. Why the big difference? Cassel was learning the position, and Neal was out on PUP, leaving a very bad replacement at RG.

No, the difference was that Josh McDaniels put him a shotgun spread in the second half of the season for a much larger percentage of plays than he had run in the first half.
