Theoretical question
O.k. let's say the earth is about to die and people need to colonize a new planet to survive. The new planet is identical to Earth with all the same resources. let's say the people are dealing with the technology of today other than the transport ships they built to take them to this other planet. All they can take to the new planet is people there isn't any room for anything else. However they do possess the knowledge to recreate the technology they once had. Let's assume everyone from earth makes it to the new planet. How long does it take their civilization to evolve. How long before the first factory is created? How long before the first car is produced? The first computer? The internet?

Man, that's a really great premise for a sci-fi novel. Travel would have to be one-way though, with no communication possible between worlds.

Yeah like lets say instead of the Earth dying an asteroid is about to destroy it. Everyone gets out in the nick of time but the planet and everything on it is completely destroyed.

I think we'd go back 500 years immediately and it'd be quite some time before anything resembling life now was achieved...

I agree. It would be very interesting to see the variances in the technology they did recreate once it got back to the current level we possess now. I mean if it took them 500 years to get there everything would be totally different I imagine.
