Chiefs buzz: Croyle lacking game action

Chiefs buzz: Croyle lacking game action

Practice isn’t like a game

Quarterback Brodie Croyle hasn’t played in a game since the preseason and now will probably start Sunday’s game against the Chargers in place of Matt Cassel. As much practice as the Chiefs give Croyle — it’s a considerable amount this week, but normally not much — practice isn’t the same as a game because it’s conducted at a much slower speed.

The Chiefs in recent weeks had several chances to get Croyle playing time. They fell hopelessly behind the Broncos in Denver a month ago and since then held sizable leads against the Cardinals and Seahawks in the fourth quarter.

In each case, coach Todd Haley kept Cassel in the game.

“With where you are in some of those games, you’re not going to be throwing the football,” Haley said. “I don’t know that you’re not getting some of the same things in practice.”

Cassel didn’t practice again Thursday after having an appendectomy a day earlier. Unless the Chiefs break one of Haley’s rules, Cassel would have to practice today to play in San Diego.

“The policy is you have to have some semblance of practice,” Haley said. “We’ll see as the week plays out exactly where we are. Right now we’ve got two days under our belt, and we’ve got two more left.”

Getting the ball to Bowe

The Chiefs failed to get the ball to wide receiver Dwayne Bowe in last week’s game against Denver, and it’s probably no coincidence they scored only 10 points in beating the Broncos. The Chargers undoubtedly took note of the connection and will probably make a similar effort to take Bowe out of the game.

“That can’t be something that we allow to happen one way or another,” Haley said. “It’s our job as coaches to find ways to help the receivers. It’s the receiver’s duty to continue to step his game up against the competition and make plays. That’s what I fully expect from Dwayne. He’s trying to continue to make steps to being a really good player in the league, and this is the next step for him, going against really good competition that knows he’s one of the guys that gets the football a bunch.”

Wiegmann can relate

Center Casey Wiegmann missed the final exhibition game and the regular-season opener in 2001 after having an appendectomy in a procedure similar to Cassel’s.

“It took me a couple of weeks,” Wiegmann said. “They didn’t want to rush me back too fast. I could have played in one week, but they just didn’t want to risk it for the rest of the year.”

Injury report

The Chiefs made one change to their practice report. They said reserve defensive back Donald Washington (ankle) was limited in practice. He didn’t practice the day before.

Safety Kendrick Lewis (ankle) was also limited. Cassel was the only other player listed, and he didn’t practice because of what the Chiefs continued to call an illness.

Probably because you are blind as a ****ing bat and a ****ing moron to match.

You go 20-29 for 209 with 3 TD's and no picks including what should have been the game winning drive and that doesn't count? Yes, you are a moron. Go eat a big pile of camel shit.

You are right, those two games were exceptional. I thought he had arrived, the way he looked against Seattle.

But then reality reared its ugly head in the Denver game.

Now I want to see him pull one out of the fire, make a comeback. I want to see what he can do when the running game isn't working.

I hope like hell he does it, because the team is clearly going to have him a while.

I called it! I said there would be all sorts of caveats by the Cassel haters. It's unreal how much hate there is for the guy. Best QB play we have had in years and "reality reared its head" because of last week, when he actually played just fine. And we won.

Wow, I mean words can't describe how stupid......

Yeah, he put up amazing numbers against a pass-D that was dead last in the league while he made what, like 1 deep pass (and by deep I mean 20 yards, lol) the whole freaking game? That whole game consisted of short passes with good YAC gains, thanks to that shit D we were playing against. Like I said, I don't know if you actually watched the game or just going by the impressive stats. I also remember the awesome flameout on our last possession.

Remind me how many touchdowns the defense gave up in that second half dipshit. The "flameout" you speak of is when the tackle got beat like a ****ing drum from the snap of the ball virtually killing that drive. Who doesn't watch the games again?

Remind me again how many "good games" has Brodie Croyle ever had?

Words can not describe how stupid it is for a QB to lose 17 yards on a sack, when it was 4th down.

Words can not describe it, it was similar to the sack in Denver that allowed them to go up 35-0, after he had already shit his pants on the previous drives.

Amazing how fans view the game differently... I would say we won the game with our ground game and defensive stand at the end of the game...

But hey, each to their own... You see it one way, I see it another.

Right, nevermind that the tackles in both situations were beaten BADLY. And yes it was a sack that "allowed" Denver to go up 35-0. The SACK allowed 35 points.

There will never be any words for how the defense played at Denver and in Houston...

One couldnt even put a sentence together to describe shitting their pants...

I agree with you.. They shit their ****ing pants....

Biggest issue fans HATE about football, The whole team sport concept.. Its in fanbases every where, not just in KC...

Did you watch the game or have you forgotten? The Broncos were up 28, since the Broncos were totally shutting the Cassel down.

Then Cassel folded like like a cheap suit when he got hit and fumbled, which was ran back for a TD. 28+7=35

But he did look great in two games! Hopefully it will be many more.

Now go throw some more coal in the heater, and .

Exactly, and that is a big part of my enthusiasm for getting to see him play again, with all the new improvements.

But no, we should all be pissed that Cassel is out, and just give the **** up.

Brodie will do okay, I think.

He'll throw the short dump-off in the flat at 120 mph. Other than that, I think he'll do fine.

He really isn't a bad quarterback ... skill-wise. He's had phenomenally bad injury luck throughout his career but he keeps rehabbing and coming back. He must like the game, or something.

As for his pro record, Herm can screw up an anvil.

I have faith that a Haley/Weis Brodie is a vastly different animal than a Herm Brodie.

Dude. He threw for 177 yards two TD's and was sacked 3 times and fumbled.

That's what you are ****ing are so giddy about?

When Cassel puts up those stats, he sucks. When Croyle does it, you're rubbing one out to it.

You guys are ****ing stupid. Wow.
