Even as far back as only 2000 years ago the most common man was about 5-6 to 5-7 (according to some program I watched either on history Channel or Discovery). All of those tall heroic looking Romans, for example, speaking with classic English accent on the screen wouldn't look and sound so awesome and imposing if we went back in time and met them.

Sorry guys about answering the same post twice. But it occurred to me that only half a century ago, Jimmy Dean's lyrics of "Big John" referred to the "giant of a man" as " stood six foot six and weighed 2-45." Those are the numbers of an average (a bit lanky) linebacker on almost any college campus.
