"Official" 2011 St. Louis Cardinals Thread

This is so unreal. We were dead. No hope. A season over. Somehow, someway we find some team chemistry and squeak into the playoffs on the last day of the season.

Only to find us facing one of the best pitching staffs assembled in years with home field advantage. We somehow, someway find a way to beat the best pitcher in baseball on the road in an elimination game.

We have to go on the road and beat the team with the best home record in baseball. A team who mortgaged their future to make this run .We somehow, someway find a way to beat them on the road and make our 18th World series trip.

We take game 1, we give away game 2 and home field advantage. Albert goes off for probably the best performance in World Series history and we take game 3 easily. Games 4 & 5 our bats fall asleep, Phone gate happens and its not looking too good.

Game 6, one of the best baseball games of all time and it takes place in a season ending go home game. Cardinals are down 2 runs in their final chance on the season, twice. They are down to their final strike of the season, twice. They give up a 2 run homer in extra innings. In the bottom of the inning their final 3 batters are a combined 3-26 in the Playoffs and a pitcher because the bench is empty. Somehow, someway they get some runners on and the comeback player of the year drives in the tying run. Mr. Freese hits the walk off home run. We will see you tommorrow night.

Game 7, With our bulldog on the mound pitching on 3 days rest he is able to give us 6 good innings and get us to within 9 outs of our 11 World series title. Texas meltsdown, probably left over from last nights game and its over.

The underdog, come back team who had no business even being in the playoffs wins a World championship. They make movies about events like this in life. Events that you remember even if your not a fan of the sport or team for the rest of your life.

When it is your team.......Priceless

First time through this years rotation.

Carp -Should have got the win. Pitched lights out

Westbrook - bad outing. Not worried about him falling off the wagon or regressing. He's a middle of the road #4 in MLB.

Garcia - Got the MLB player of the week. Enough said.

Lohse - pitched really good. Made a few mistakes but recovered and pitched good. MAYBE he has got it turned around.

McClellan- Pitched really good. Left one hanging breaking ball. Hopefully he can keep this up all year. 0.78 era in spring training

The bullpen looked solid, especially Franklin.

Albert - I honestly don't know what you were watching. His first RBI was a flat footed swing where he managed to slice under it and drive in a run with a sac. His 2nd RBI proved just how off he is right now. The first pitch of the AB was a chest high fastball about 4 inches inside. The ball actually popped the mitt before he raised his arms to 'avoid' the pitch. It was a 90 mph fastball and he simply didn't react to it until it was already by him.

The RBI single was an 8 hopper through the IF that just missed being his 17th GIDP of the season. He got very very lucky that the 3b was playing a little closer to the line than he should've.

It was a nice comeback win and it showed some heart - but if you only see the boxscore and believe that Albert's coming around, don't believe it. Perhaps the lucky hit will get him more comfortable and he'll lock in from there, but he didn't have a good AB all night tonight.

Lohse was Lohse.

He's a guy that will always look solid until the wheels start to wobble a bit, then he tends to make sure they fly right off. He just doesn't have much in the way of intestinal fortitude.

I watched the game. I believe that Albert getting that single could be considered "luck" but I considered it him finding his swing.

Anyways, I'm still not sold on the bullpen just yet. I need to see how Boggs and Motte perform. So far, the only two pitchers in the bullpen I'm confident in are the LOOGYs(Miller, Tallet), and maybe Batista. I could say that about Franklin, but with him closing I fear for the worst. But I'm not worried about the rotation and if the Cards win tomorrow, I'll be happy. Considering how the Padres series started and Holliday going down, the Cards could still be looking for their first win.

I swear we watch different games.

I like Tallet a lot more than I thought I would but Miller walked another lefty. And I don't trust Batista a bit. He simply has no command inside the strike zone. He doesn't throw a lot of balls, but he also never hits the glove either. If he's lucky, he'll miss down, but when you're missing your location that often, it's only a matter of time before you miss it to the middle of the plate. I honestly hate seeing the guy on the mound. Brian Augenstein, however, looks awfully good out there.

Franklin looked great tonight. He was staying on top of his pitches and finishing with his delivery so he was able to keep the ball down quite well. When his mechanics are like that, he's actually very hard to hit the ball hard off of.

When he's bad, he's bad. But credit where it's due - he was very very good tonight.

Yes and no.

The wheels started wobbling a bit when the first two runs scored. Then came the "Lohse moment" w/ the HR to McCutcheon.

He re-grouped better than I thought he would in the 7th (I'd have never sent him out there), but the boy still has a whole lot of Tomko in him. I simply don't trust him in a close game when things get even a little bit hairy. He lacks the ability to bear down and fight through tough spots.

I'll give credit to Franklin.

I agree with you about Batista, but he hasn't given up a run yet(Miller bailed his ass out big time on Opening Day with the bases loaded). I didn't see the inning Augenstein pitched yesterday(I think he did pitch, no?) but he seems decent. Miller is Miller, you know what you'll get out of him. I've been really impressed with Tallet, though.

Well, it's a day game after a night game and the Cardinals have a whopping 4 hits through 6 innings against the immortal Kevin Correa...

Glad to see they bothered to show up.

Lemme know when I can start worrying about that 90 loss season without being "hysterical" - m'kay?

These guys suck. Or they just don't give a shit. More likely both.

That's been the MO for a while now. Guy's like Ian Snelling were almost unhittable to the cards.

I think you'd be hard pressed to find a life long Cubs fan who hates this ****ing team as much as I do right now. Goddamn I wish LaRussa would drop ****ing dead and all his sycophant crony one who sucks the peniss right along with him. They should have blown it up last year. They really, really should have blown it up this year. Now we'll have to endure a lost season of no hope and further internal destruction and then hopefully next season the rebuilding process will begin.

Goddammit.
