Matt Williamson of Scouts Inc. breaking down a key position group in a division. Today, he reviews & ranks the AFC West defensive lines from best to worst.
1. Oakland Raiders - Few seem to realize it, but the Raiders have one heck of a defensive line, a very versatile unit than can play a 4-3 or a 3-4. Expect to see more odd fronts in the future -- having such options is obviously very valuable. Oakland was an exceptional defense versus the run last season while also showing a very strong ability to pressure the quarterback. There is no reason to think that will change in 2011. 2. Kansas City Chiefs - The Chiefs front three revolves around defensive end Glenn Dorsey, who improved immensely in 2010, his third NFL season. 3. San Diego Chargers - The Chargers defensive line play has been solid but not spectacular, even though nose tackle defensive tackle Antonio Garay has developed into an underrated stalwart. First-round pick defensive tackle Corey Liuget has instantly improved this line. 4. Denver Broncos - The Broncos defense is a mess. |
