KC Star: Baldwin & Painter both possible for Sunday

Haley says Jon Baldwin could play Sunday

Chiefs coach Todd Haley said today that, after a seven-week absence, rookie wide receiver Jon Baldwin could return to full participation this week and might play Sunday at Indianapolis.

Baldwin, the Chiefs' first-round draft pick, suffered a fractured thumb in August after an altercation with teammate Thomas Jones. He began catching passes about 10 days ago, before his team's game at San Diego, the coaches and trainers apparently decided that he wasn't yet ready for full practices or participation in a game.

Haley said Baldwin would likely work with the special-teams unit this week, at least until he's ready to join the receivers corps on a full-time basis.

----------------------------------------

Looks like Chiefs will see Painter at QB for Colts

Kind of odd watching the Colts play the other night without Peyton Manning at QB. But he's out and apparently Kerry Collins still is, too.
Collins, who is recovering from a concussion that forced him to miss last week's game against Tampa Bay, is unlikely to be ready to play Sunday against the Chiefs in Indianapolis.

So the Chiefs will evidently see Curtis Painter, who would make the second start of his NFL career.

''Kerry has not been cleared as of yet,'' Indianapolis coach Jim Caldwell said. ''They're allowing him to do a little bit but not much. So at this point in time Curtis is our starter.''

Painter is completing just 44 percent of his passes and has taken five sacks in 41 pass attempts.

''There's not anyone that can do exactly what Peyton's been able to do over the years,'' Caldwell said. ''He's been in the system for 14 years. He knows it like the back of his hand. So we don't anticipate nor expect anyone to be able to duplicate what he's done. Each of these guys have their own personalities and their own strengths and their own God-given gifts and what we try to do is put them in the best position to take advantage of that.''

i dont think so, if you watched the game vs the Bucs they were in it all the way and they were on the road, i say they beat the Chiefs @ home.

Bucs were shooting themselves in the foot the whole game with penalties. They had some breakdowns defensively that led to big plays or Painter would have got nothing done. If we keep the errors down, this team should not lose to the Colts.

how will the Chiefs deal with Freeney and Mathis with no rushing attack?

2.7 yards a carry will not keep Cassel's jersey clean.

Breaston has been there to make plays all season. Yet it takes a horrible defense at home to get him looks from Cassel. The play in SD was when Breaston played Bowe's spot for a set of downs so it was Matt's first read.

So my question is....How will Baldwin even get looks from Matt as the 3rd option. If a QB went through reads, this would be a positive thing for an offense. I am not sure Cassel will even use Baldwin or allow him to do well, and it will lead to claims of "bust".

Id also like to point out that Moeaki was a major factor in pass protection last year.

Without him, Barry Richardson will get burned at the stake.

Who knows, MAYBE either Freeney or Mathis takes Cassel out and we get to move on.

It's really not cool to even wish for Cassel to be "Theismanned" though

Luck isn't happening, gentlemen, unless we trade into the 1 spot.

This team has too much talent for us to fail that badly, and they are getting better every week.
