Sveum was plan C. Plan A and B took themselves out.

Sveum was voted top managerial prospect in 2003. And he's been under some of the best mangers this game has had to offer. I'm eager to see what he can do.

I think he's a good baseball guy just hasn't proven himself as a manager yet and I guess I expected more of a "splash" to be made... but like you said, the first 2 choices were out. What strikes me funny is that Epstein said he didn't want Sandberg because he wanted a guy with experience... so he hired a guy who's managed like 15 games. Technically that is experience I guess.

Epstein said he wanted a guy with MLB experience. Sandberg has 0 at any level.

Sandberg should have gotten his shot last year but Hendry decided to piss in his cherios and he left.

This means absolutely nothing, just throwing it out there... my boss has done some sports broadcasting and knows a lot of the former guys in the Cubs front office and broadcast teams... knew Harey Carey and knows Mike Shannon on the Cards team pretty well... has done some broadcasting from Wrigley...

Anyway... he met Sandburg a couple times and told me about a week ago that yes he was a good player but he's dumb as a box of rocks. Maybe Theo just didn't think he was the right guy for the job for reasons other than MLB experience...?

I don't get people saying that, and you aren't anywhere near the first person I've heard say it. He's managed 2 years of A ball, a year of AA ball and 2 years of AAA ball. Most guys wouldn't do that even if you told them you'd give them a big league gig at the end of it because managing in the minors is a serious grind. He's shown some serious dedication to learning the craft of managing rather than just hanging out as a bench coach or whatever on a big league roster give the guy some credit.

What don't you get about MLB experience? Is it that fact that it doesn't have an "A?"
