***OFFICIAL head coaching search thread***

So who are we going to bring in to replace Haley?

Who do you like? Do you want experienced candidates? Someone fresh and young?

Potential candidates:

Jeff Fisher
Kirk Ferentz
Josh McDaniels
Marty Schottenheimer
Mike Zimmer
Andy Reid
Jay Gruden
Rick Dennison
Todd Bowles
Rob Ryan
Dom Capers
Brian Billick
Jon Gruden
Pepper Johnson
Kevin Gilbride

NEWS

Nick Wright: Pioli believes McDaniels isn't a viable option, and Fisher is but won't offer Jeff big bucks is the bad news

Fitzgerald I don't think his team is even bowl eligible.
Did you even read what I wrote? MOST people who follow college coaching closely will agree that Fitzgerald is one of the best there is right now. He has ZERO to work with, yet gets production out of them... THAT is what makes a great coach. He's like a young Bill Snyder. You aren't going to win a national championship with the talent you get at Northwestern.

I'm guessing that this is your first year to pay any attention to the Big Ten at all. Those of us who follow it closely know how good Pat Fitzgerald is.

Oh and didn't Pat take a MUCH less talented Wildcat team to Lincoln and beat your boys?

You can't say he isn't a great coach just because he has Div II talent but has to play in the Big 10.

MACK BROWN???? He is a complete hack whose only talent is in recruiting. He is one of the WORST game day coaches ever to have a job at ANY level.

Petrino? meh

Stoops is a disciple of Snyder's and someone who I couldn't complain about. There is also talk that he may be ready to make the leap.

Because I don't agree with you must mean I didn't follow Big Ten football til this year *dismissive jerk off motion*. Gary Barnett didn't have much at Northwestern and took them to the Rose Bowl. Sure as **** didn't mean he was an NFL coach neither is Fitzgerald.

Northwestern beating Nebraska had nothing to do with Fitzgearld you must not have followed them until the last few weeks. Persa wasn't doing much got injured and then Cain Coulter came in and moved the ball but it wasn't like Nebraska was playing inspired.

Might as well put Paul Rhodes on your list then too.

Wow, I am normally not so dismissive.. but you REALLY don't know jack shit about this. I can find you dozens of articles talking about how great a coach Pat Fitz is. Your example of Barnett is a piss poor stupid one.. Barnett WAS considered a great NFL coaching candidate until all the scandal.

You really are talking out of your ass on this one...

Also, I'm not sure what you are laughing at with the young Bill Snyder reference.. are you saying that reference is unfounded or are you claiming Snyder isn't a great coach and someone to which you hold other people up to for comparisons?

Paul Rhodes may eventually be on that level... he is currently a big ? BUT he has an advantage over Fitz... he can recruit morons... the academic standards at ISU are not even in the same BALLPARK as NW.

You are failing to realize how amazingly hard it is to make a team like NW competitive... you may as well try to get Dartmouth or Cornell to be relevant.

We're talking about the coach that lost 5 games in a row this year and hasn't won a bowl game right? Yeah I'd love to see an NFL team hire Pat Fitzgerald.

Thank god people like you don't get hired to run NFL teams... or evaluate talent. You lack the ability to see the big picture and understand subtleties.

Luckily, there are plenty of people who do appreciate talent like Fitz .. one reason he was given an extension to 2020 at NW.

Of course, to you... all of these writers are idiots like me, right?

yes and 3 of those 5 were top 25 teams... and two of his bowl game losses were in OT to tough teams.. Missouri and Auburn...

He is a consensus top 10 coach among college coaches... combine that with his youth and he makes for a very enticing NFL candidate.

Also not like he's working with elite talents at Northwestern. If Haley is fired I'm pretty sure Pioli will try to get Kirk Ferentz, but I'm sure that's been mentioned before I just didn't read the entire thread.
