RUMOR: Cowher to Chargers?

This is a rumor that I heard on the radio (XX1090) this morning. Supposedly this rumor has some merit. The key points that I picked up on:

1. Cowher is interested in the taking over the Chargers as long as AJ Smith is fired along with Turner.

2. He wants full control and wants to bring in his own personnel men (obviously, right?)

3. He wants to go to SD because they have a legit QB, something other teams that made him offers didn't have.

4. Apparently he liked Rivers coming out of the draft more than Ruthlessraper.

Basically, Rivers is a huge draw for Cowher.

I'd rather he not be in our division, but given a choice I'd rather see him in San Diego than here.

Point is I think AJ Smith was very good at acquiring talent. Cowher is a better coach than Norv, but is Cowher a better talent evaluator than Smith? Personally, I'd be happy to see AJ Smith leave the AFC West.

I'd be happy to see him here if he wasn't allowed to hire coaches.

Nope, Shula won the NFL title in 1968, which is the year he lost Super Bowl III.

Jeff Fisher would be my bet for SD

At least he'd be an upgrade over what they currently have. Cowher has shown to have a pretty good History of OCs in the past. Mularkey and Gailey to name a few. Good OCs can sometimes do wonders for QBs

I'd tell Cowher the fug off about AJ Smith. That dude can draft talent. Otherwise I'd tell Cowher he can hire his own staff and that Smith will have no say in the coaching staff.

otherwise, piss off mug face.

Tired of seeing this. AJ Smith is an average drafter at best.

2003.

He has the #1 pick in the '04 draft, and takes the obvious Eli Manning and gets a kings ransom for him.
'05- Shawne Merriman... Good for 2-3 years before he gets busted for roids. Hasn't done anything since
'06- Antonio Cromartie... Turned out to be a decent corner. Left the team after 4 years
'07- Craig "Buster" Davis... nickname suits him well
'08- Antoine Cason... another decent corner... we got Flowers in the second round who is much better.
'09- Larry English.. Bust
'10- Ryan Mathews.. Not looking good
'11 Liegeut (sp?) Too early to tell.

Sure he has found some gems like Michael Turner and Antonio Gates, but overall he is really overrated.

his 2004 and 2005 drafts were exceptional. 2004 got Rivers and Turner and some other solid players. 2005 was really good with Merrimam, Castillo, Jackson and Sproles.

The rest have been nothing special but not complete crap. He drafted Whitehurst and then turned around and traded him for a 2nd. He drafted Weddle and Naana who are solid. He drafted Cromartie who has talent but just doesnt apply himself, Cason is a starting CB for the too. Other players who have contributed are Vasquez, Mathews, Butler...

IMHO he's by far the best GM in the AFCW when it comes to drafting talent.
