It doesn't have to be coming from Pioli. It could be coming from someone close to Ferentz or his agent.

Correct me if I'm wrong on this and tell me why their coach would be regarded a good NFL HC candidate.
Iowa isn't a premiere college program, and that's precisely why he's continuously mentioned as a candidate for NFL jobs. He's had a pretty good streak at a upper-middle class school.

But I just think there is a huge difference between coaching a bunch of kids, most who have no chance at a career in the NFL and coaching a team of professionals.
Ferentz coached offensive line under BB in Cleveland. That's where he got the tie to Pioli in the first place.

I'd be ok with that. Better than Ronald McDaniels.

I guess I don't get it then. Thanks for the serious response.

You don't get what? That he usually overachieves with lesser teams than bigger schools usually have?

Iowa runs a pro-style offense, run heavy, playaction passing, zone blocking. Very much like a Mike Shanahan offense.

They run a base 4-3 defense with almost no blitzing. In fact, they don't even use situational packages most of the time.

All of that being said, his OC and DC have near complete autonomy.

One top 20 recruiting class in 13 years yet 6-3 in bowl games, 2 Big10 co-championships, an Orange Bowl, #8 in the final AP poll 3 years in a row, and the list goes on...

Well, that is encouraging. I like the the offensive philosophy and I think it fits our personel, especially if Cassel returns. I like the autonomy part as well. That is how a good coach should operate, imo. You hired these guys to do a job, let them do it. As long as he doesn't have a problem if Romeo says, we're built for a 3-4 no matter how much you want a 4-3 then I feel slightly better about it.

Ferentz to me is the conservative version of Dick Vermeil. CEO type as a head coach very similar to Vermeil. Build a strong staff, which we have the makings of in place right now IMO espeically on defense.

Ferentz is overrated....

He's loses to teams with less talent on a regular basis (Iowa State/Northwestern).

Ferentz was an assistant coach with the Browns and the Ravens (the same team actually, he was there when they moved to Baltimore). I'm not saying I want to hire him (I don't know anything about him) just pointing that out.
