Most decent coaches not named Belichick are in the .500 range in the playoffs. Not sure how I feel about that argument. You hear it a lot by fans across the board. You get in the playoffs, and 11 of the 12 teams are going to pick up a loss. That's true whether we're talking about Fisher, Billick, any of these guys who have coached any length of time. You take away the Titans Super Bowl run, Fisher's playoff record doesn't look so good. You take away Billick's Super Bowl year, his record isn't good. You take away Shanahan's two great years with Elway and his record is terrible. None of these guys are close to Marty's 5-13 playoff record though.
But that's how it is, this places makes so many excuses for winning sometimes, it's a joke. The majority of coaches who have had success the last 15 years got lucky. Fisher, Dungy, Cowher, Billick. Whether it was a miracle play, lucking into a 6th round QB, etc, etc. Although that's probably true to a point, sometimes it's better to be lucky than good. |
