***OFFICIAL head coaching search thread***

So who are we going to bring in to replace Haley?

Who do you like? Do you want experienced candidates? Someone fresh and young?

Potential candidates:

Jeff Fisher
Kirk Ferentz
Josh McDaniels
Marty Schottenheimer
Mike Zimmer
Andy Reid
Jay Gruden
Rick Dennison
Todd Bowles
Rob Ryan
Dom Capers
Brian Billick
Jon Gruden
Pepper Johnson
Kevin Gilbride

NEWS

Nick Wright: Pioli believes McDaniels isn't a viable option, and Fisher is but won't offer Jeff big bucks is the bad news

My thoughts, exactly.

I do like what Chudzinski has done with Newton.

He's only done this for a yr though.

Again, none of this matters if Pioli does not address the QB issue.

Jack Harry and Frank Boal are endorsing Crennel. Kiss of death.

I think it will be Romeo, but I do not think they name him in the coming days.

Yep.

With that being said I am fully expecting Romeo to be the head coach and will be 100% shocked if he isn't. It is the cheap option which the Hunts will want.

If Romeo is the HC he will be named this week for sure. Standard protocol.

Probably the fact he hasn't already been named is a sign he's not getting the job.

It's the cheap option and it keeps half the team philosophy intact as opposed to someone else who might want to blow up the defense as well as the offense. Our defense is fine and we have to be careful that whoever comes in takes it to the next level and doesn't try to rebuild it.

I think the fan base has pretty much let Pioli know what they think of Cassel. Now, he may be back but if we draft a QB then ok, what ya gonna do? But if he comes back and there are no signs of change on the horizon then Pioli is hitching his wagon to a cart without a horse.

Tell me why.
Because the defense is very close to being championship caliber, and that window of opportunity is going to close in a couple of years as Derrick Johnson and Tamba Hali get older. Believe it or not, NFL players have very short careers.

Jamaal Charles also has an expiration date that's coming up in 2-3 years. You have to win while you can. Romeo Crennel won't be around in 5 years, but he gives them the best chance to win in the next 2-3 years. Signing Kyle Orton would also give them the best chance to win in that time period, but sadly, that's probably not going to happen.

It's ridiculous to plan for anything beyond that 2-3 year window for this team, because most of the best players on the roster will either be gone after that or will be less productive (see Thomas Jones). If Crennel only coaches 2 years but gets the Chiefs to a Super Bowl for the first time since the 1969 season, I suspect most fans would be just fine with that.

That's why a short-term hire would be good for this team.

Difference between Haley and Romeo is Haley never had a HC job and probably offered to wipe Pioli's ass for the chance. Romeo isn't in quite that situation. Romeo is more in a position to say if he can't run it his way then **** it all. Haley couldn't afford to do that.
