DraftPlanet/CasinoPlanet: A Proposal

Every year, we have the debate about when (and if) Draft Planet and Casino Planet should be hidden from the top and when (and if) they should be brought back. This has all been discussed ad nauseum around here, so I won't reiterate everything, but the basic idea is that there's not a LOT of talk in the regular season about the draft (though there is some), and there's not a LOT of talk in the offseason about fantasy sports (though there is some). So, it would be nice to have them both available year-round, but doing so adds another subforum to an already large list at the top of the Lounge. (Yes, you can hide them, but 90% of people don't, and they'd still be there for guests and the like.)

After a brief chat about it in the mod forum, we'd like to propose that the two forums be combined into one, but left up year-round. We'll add prefixes to the forum so that the different topics can be distinguished from each other and filtered if desired. It won't be the cleanest combination ever, but I think it'll be manageable given that people are already used to the hodgepodge of topics they sort through in the Lounge anyway and that the activity in those forums is comparatively low anyway.

Anyway, this thread is mainly to see if there are any strong objections to doing so. I might add a poll to this thread later if necessary, but the current thinking is that we'll do it unless a bunch of people hate it.

Discus.

What was the stat you brought up, DaFace? 90% of people don't use the hide subforum feature.

It really makes no sense for people to bitch about one extra subforum on the Lounge page.
If AustinChief can make it so that n00bs and non-logged in users won't see them up there by default, I'd be OK with that. We've never been able to figure out how to do that in the past.

It takes 2 seconds to set the prefix, and you can probably bookmark it so you would never have to see the casino prefixes. There might be a user-level hack where we could hide certain prefixes for a certain user, but I'd have to look into that.

Personally, I think football sub-forums on a football board are ridiculous... and while I care about the draft, I don't care for all the speculation and mocks. I care about discussing needs and prospects, but don't care to speculate about the same small group of players for several months leading up to the draft. However, I do think the amount of mock drafts and 'who should I start' can be a bit much, so I understand why there's a separate forum.

And sure, it's something worth talking about pretty much year round... the first page of Draft Planet basically goes back to the beginning of November. If we combined the two right now, it would basically push everything from DraftPlanet off the first page that was before 12/25, but the first post on the 2nd page would be from 12/20, then 12/15.

For CasinoPlanet, there were two threads posted between 2/24/11 and 8/4. There are 8 pages from August until now, where DraftPlanet has 2 between 5/29/11 and now. That's almost no overlap. If you're there everyday or even once a week, I'd think you would never have to click the 2nd page or use prefixes to catch all new replies in the combined forum. The biggest overlap will probably be Dec/Jan.

I've been giving my ****ing input on this topic until I started getting neg rep and a mod openly pondered taking my thread starting priviledges away.

This is a football forum. SUPPORT A DRAFT FORUM by putting it at the top.

I get it, though. We don't really have a mod on CP that gives two shits in draft threads, so the issue doesn't get the voice it deserves.

No big whoop. I take my draft conversation to other boards that actually care about it. Just wish this forum would get the **** on board with it.
Wow. I don't know what to say to this. I have no idea what you expected to accomplish with this post. I'm pretty sure this wasn't even directed at me but it still pisses me off. If you want your ideas to make this place more suitable for yourself then consider this thread an invitation to voice your ideas. I personally guarantee coming in with an attitude somewhat similar to that of my ex-wife will get you exactly nowhere.

DraftPlanet would have more threads posted in it during the college season if it was on top. For whatever reason it seems to be the bastard subforum on here. The thing about DraftPlanet its not really just about the Chiefs, you get the whole broad spectrum of the NFL discussed in it. Its basically the purest football talk on this board, with not much trolling at all to be honest. It is a board that with all the resources and different insight the posters on here bring, is one of the best in all of pro-football. CP Mock Draft is the best thread of the year on the entire board, its pure football and with the expection of Hootie making an ass of himself generally troll free.

My suggestion would be to put the Fantasy Football and Gambling section in the Media Center and rename that entire thing - Entertainment Center since that is what Fantasy Football and Gambling is more than the DraftPlanet. Then DraftPlanet can stay in the spot where the Casino is year-round.

As a long time member here I have to say that I've been in the Draft Planet and the Casino Planet maybe a dozen times since I started.
I have absolutely no use for it and have learned to ignore it when it is visible.

That being said, if it will keep all of the "Rate my Fantasy team" threads and the Draftubators whacking one another off away from the lounge, I'm in full support.

Take this for what it is worth but to me it would be cleanest to do the following:

1) Keep the "casino planet" forum open all year, but rename it to Fantasy Sports & Gambling .

That way it is clear, and any and all fantasy talk is kept there....from any sport..and then also any gambling talk too.

2) Draft planet I really don't care if it stays open all year, but if enough people think it is a problem to keep open all year, then do some focus groups/polls to see when to keep it open...for example:

keep it open from Superbowl to a week or two after draft day.....and just do it the same every year....

I dunno, I am probably not being helpful but I see fantasy sports / gambling as a year round topic and I see draft as a temporary topic...but I don't care for the idea of merging them.

Just my opinion really.....I am not very active in eithe rforum but I have made posts in both.

Whatever you do I am sure will be fine though!

I don't see the problem with just putting it up there. Maybe take DC off the subforum list and have it stand on its own. Those of us that post there know where it is anyway.
