... in Topeka.

My folks are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary next month. They're heading up to the casonis north of T-Town for a bit, then they want to have a family meal (call it 20) at a nice steak joint in Topeka (central to all of the attendees).

Adults and kids ranging from 71 to 4. Family friendly...

Thanks in advance for the suggestions. You don't celebrate 50 years very often.

That was years ago. It's great, they can handle 20 if you get a reservation.

Yelp has Texas Roadhouse as the highest rated Steakhouse in Topeka, although this Northstar place isn't listed.

I've never been to Topeka but when I go out for a steak I go to Longhorn. "The Outlaw" is just a really good steak.

Re: Longhorn...When you have to put shit on top of a steak to make it taste good, it isn't a good steakhouse.

if you want to do upscale ($25+ entree) you could do New City Cafe, though 20 people would damn near fill the place.

Longhorn is terribad. Not a big fan of Texas Roadhouse either. J Gilberts is by far the best steak for the price. It tastes better than Ruth's Chris and since the sides are not a la carte you don't get bent over at JG's like you do at Ruth's Chris. Majestic is pretty nice too, but again, I prefer J Gilberts. I would say those 3 are the best in KC (as far as I know, I haven't been to every steak house here). J Alexander's is good too.

The best steak in KC is the prime rib at Plaza III. I don't know how you can complain about Longhorn, though. At that price point, it's excellent value. Their cuts are the same ones served at Capital Grille. You aren't confusing them with Lonestar are you?

J Gilbert's and J Alexander's are both excellent.

Topeka has nothing comparable to those places - but I agree, Longhorn is pretty bad.

Seriously tho...

"Crickets" in Spring Hill host private dinners for groups up to 24. They serve Kansas City eye of the strip as their main course.

The thing is...you can't just call to make reservations, you have to be invited to go, and then enter your name in a drawing to host your own dinner.

Sounds weird...but it is exactly what you are looking for.

And they don't advertise...it's all word of mouth.

Edit* Eh...it's like about hour form Topeka.
