I'm not sure where it's going but it's interesting enough. The pilot episode was incredible. Each episode I've seen since has kept my attention and it's pretty well acted. Definitely fits "cerebral and deeply emotional" so far.

What I read definitely piqued my interest. This is a new show, no?

Yeah, it just started this year, in March, if I recall correctly.
