If Bowe Wants Megatron Money

Let's say, as has been rumored, that Bowe is genuinely looking for Megatron money.

Now, in case you've been living under a rock, Megatron got a seven year deal worth $134 million dollars, with $60 million guaranteed. It is the biggest contract in NFL history.

You are Scott Pioli, and you've got 'til July to get him signed to avoid paying him a $9 million franchise tag this year. You probably don't want to tag him for two straight years, as (a.) he's saying he's going hold out until you do sign him, and (b.) Branden Albert will be a free agent next year if you do.

Trading is also an option, but no team in the NFL wanted him for a 1st rounder when you tried to trade him during the draft's first day, if you believe those rumors. No team wanted to burn a 1st on Mike Wallace, either. So you're not getting a first if you try to trade him.

Explain the process by which you try to resolve this issue, all you Piolis out there.

Are you going to give him the contract he wants? Or close?

What is his contract worth to you? How do you intend on getting him down to that?

Are you going to try to trade him? What are you going to trade him for?

I know we're all going to love criticizing Pioli for whatever he does here, but it'd help if you outline what YOU'D do in his shoes.

Because this could potentially be a terrible situation.

6 yrs/$65 million/$35 million guaranteed

Whatever he gets staying in KC is still gonna go to waste unless we get a franchise QB.

This is less than he wants, according to you.

There is a hole in your logic.

My offer pays him more annually on average.

Answer: Seven seasons before Rothlisberger was drafted in 2004. Eight if you count the waiting period for Rothlisberger to win a Super Bowl (not long at all).

Bowe will be on year 6 starting in 2012.

Just in time for Stanzi to get his feet wet for a season, then go out and win championships

We can win with Matt Cassel / Scott Pioli.

It wasn't until Carr and Bowe came along that things changed.

Carr wanted to be a cowboy, so that's out.

All of the sudden Pioli decided to not pay? Why now? Something specific about Bowe?

We don't know what's going on for sure but circumstances certainly suggest that Bowe is asking for "more" or wants out like Carr.

I suppose another possibility is that maybe they know something about Bowe that makes them not want to give him a big contract. Attitude, can't learn playbook?

who knows.

If he scoffs at it, trade his ass for a minimum of 2 2nd rounders (however let him sit till end of trade deadline). By waiting up to the trade deadline, the Chiefs give the other talent on this team a chance to step up and prove whether Bowe is needed or not.

Who's throwing to Fitzgerald? We have cap space enough to frontload a deal, use that to our advantage. Give him a $10 million signing bonus, with $13 million in the first year and $8 million each additional year, $10 cap hit each year after the first. Make the first three years guaranteed and the last year at $15. That's five years for $62 million and 39 of it is guaranteed.

Charles and Hali both got SEVERELY underpaid.

Succop... eh, whatever. It's an average contract for a kicker. 5 years 14 million.

Cassel's the only overpaid player on this roster whose contract was done by Pioli. Hell, I think he might be the only overpaid player on this roster PERIOD. And I think we all know why:

Jamaal's extension last year:

5 years $32.5 million, 13 million guaranteed.

Pioli was a goddamned genius on that deal. Either that or he used violent coercive techniques to get Charles to sign that contract.

Not quite as big of a steal as Charles' contract, but why should it? That's totally a great deal for us to get a player like Hali. Well, it's average to top end. Which is worth it. The point is, we've got Hali playing for the Chiefs.

I think the Charles contract is a little on the cheap side. Charles was never a carry-the-load back.

The Hali deal, I think, was the biggest steal. You're talking about a Top 5 passrusher.

I give credit where credit is due, you silly poophead.

I just heaped praises onto Scott for the Charles deal. I said I liked the Hali contract.

YOU'RE the one hating on Pioli if anything for calling those two players overpaid.

Definitely.

That attitude may change as teams start to just cycle through pass rushers like they cycle through RBs. Everybody wants/needs 2 good ones, and most teams these days covet 3 pass rushers if they don't have other needs.

Why not 8 years, roughly the same numbers through the first 7 years, with the 5th at 10 mil, and the 8th at 15 mil.

That's 10 years for 82 mil, with the 39 guaranteed.
