He showed promise in the preseason last year, and from everything we've read, they decided not to play him last year because they wanted to save him. Aside from scrambling around and making some heroic plays behind a lackluster line there wasn't much room for success had he played at the end of the year. Personally, would I have played him? I would have liked to see him get some experience, so yes. But I can see the logic in keeping him out to avoid David Carr syndrome.

If he shows improvement this preseason then we will have our answer. If he does well and there is upside he is worth throwing in there to let him learn, even if he makes the inevitable young QB mistakes. Unfortunately, Cassel is 30 and is still making the same young QB mistakes.

I hardly consider one half ass show out against St. Louis scrubs promise.

Why not? it was their scrubs against our scrubbiest of all scrubs. Their defensive scrubs were good enough to hold down even our first team O. Stanzi came in, showed some real spunk, and basically willed the ball down the field. It wasn't enough to "crown his ass" but it showed us that he's not chicken shit. All I'm talking about is Stanzi's potential here. He hasn't done anything to show that he has none, but instead shown that he's got some balls and can score when he's outmanned. It remains to be seen if he's good enough to be a starter, but if his full potential is realized, he would be better than Cassel.

The point is, Einstein, he is 6 yrs younger than Cassel. More time for him to develop. Cassel will be 30. He's reached his ceiling. Plus, he started in college. Cassel didnt see action at QB in college.

So let's throw away the next few years and hope that a long shot 5th round pick will lead us to the promise land. He is still not NFL ready clearly. Just because he has the time to develop doesn't mean he will. Like I told SNR, find me 6 years from now and tell me if Ricky Stanzi amounts to shit.

Wow. You are clueless.

I have no idea how good/bad Stanzi is.

My point is, I'd rather watch Stanzi over Cassel.

We already know Cassel sucks.

We dont know what Stanzi is.

You simply saying Stanzi wont amount to shit does little to persuade me.

There is a reason Stanzi doesn't play. People who know a hell of a lot more about football than any of us have figured it out. They see a lot more than we do. We went to the playoffs with a shitty D and Cassel, put Stanzi in and we're not even .500.

Ahh, this is my favorite True Fan fallacy. I love it.

Also, 2010's defense wasn't shitty, dumbass.
