Dwayne Bowe reaches agreement with Chiefs?

Source: Dwayne Bowe reaches agreement with Chiefs
Holdout seen flying to Kansas City Friday

UPDATED 4:14 PM CDT Aug 10, 2012

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -
Holdout wide receiver Dwayne Bowe has reached agreement with the Kansas City Chiefs over his contract dispute, a source has told KMBC 9 News.

Bowe, who has missed all of the team's training camp, was spotted flying to Kansas City on Friday afternoon.

Bowe, 27, had been holding out while trying to get a long-term contract. He did not sign one before the league deadline for a long-term deal expired last month.

The Chiefs named him their nonexclusive franchise player last spring, which meant the team would have to offer him a one-year contract that would make him one of the five highest-paid players in the league. He could negotiate with other teams, but the Chiefs would have the right to match the offer or get two first-round draft picks as compensation.

The Chiefs have not yet confirmed that Bowe has reached an agreement with them.

The team plays its first preseason game of the year against the Arizona Cardinals Friday night at Arrowhead Stadium.

There’s no gray area among our AFC West poll voters this week.

They believe Kansas City holdout receiver Dwayne Bowe needs to get into the team’s training camp.

As of 2:20 p.m. ET Wednesday, a whopping 82 percent of the votes cast believe Bowe is in the wrong in his holdout, while 18 percent believe Bowe is in the right. He has missed all of training camp and he stayed away from the team during the offseason program.

I have to agree with the overwhelming majority here. I have been critical of Bowe’s stance since he didn’t report to training camp and I shake my head with each passing day that he doesn’t report. I just don’t know what he thinks it is accomplishing.

This season is critical to him getting a huge contract in 2013, whether it’s from the Chiefs or another team. After missing the entire offseason and then all of training camp, Bowe would be putting himself at risk of suffering muscle injuries. How many times have we’ve seen a player holdout from camp and then tweak a hamstring?

Also, the Chiefs are running a new offense. It’s going to take Bowe time to get comfortable in Brian Daboll’s offense.

Bowe will eventually join the Chiefs, but with each passing day, he is putting more pressure on himself. So, I can’t disagree with the 82 percent of the voters in this poll. Thanks to everyone who played along.

Despite any Dwayne Bowe sightings and reported signings, he still is unlikely to sign franchise tender until before start of regular season.

You have reading comprehension issues don't you? Bowe isn't gaining a thing by holding out.

He can't get a penny more this year so he is playing for next years deal. Holding out and getting farther behind doesn't accomplish that.

If you are now going to say the hold out won't effect his play then there is no loss for Bowe or KC so Pioli isn't being pawned.

So he is either hurting his performance and therefore screwing himself, or he isn't hurting his performance screwing nobody.

But that's quite a bit for you to digest isn't it?

Uh...the only thing that we have learned so far from Bowe's holdout is that the offense seems just fine. Pioli committed to paying Bowe $9.5 million this year. That, or nothing. No one is "owning" anyone. By the way, my computer automatically fixed "pwned" to "owned," and I didn't correct it, since "pwned" is reeruned.

Bowe will have a lot of value on the market no matter what, but it seems to me that if this offense is going to put up points without him, that would amplify the mistake Bowe is making here.

Don't get me wrong, I want him back now. Without him, teams can lock up Baldwin. With him, Hillis/Charles/DMC, the TE's, and what seems to be a nice OL, WOW.

This offense is not "fine" without Bowe.

Despite your midsplaced joy, we are not going to be an effective offense throwing all of the passes to McCluster, Charles and Hillis.

Seems like something Pioli failed to anticipate/account for.
