Moved to Columbia, Mo in 1990. Started watching the Chiefs the next year and fell in love with that defense. Okoye, Word, Deberg and the play-action offense was pretty cool too. I just wish we had someone with half of Debergs play-action ability; with this running game it could be deadly.

My dad was a Dallas Texan fan and a University of Houston grad and UH football season ticket owner. As a kid, I'd go to the Astrodome and watch the Cougars play. Elmo Wright was a UH All American WR drafted by KC. He was the FIRST (not Billy "White Shoes" Johnson) to do a touchdown dance. Once KC drafted him, I was a Chiefs fan!
(Elmo is at 4:35 in the video below) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YC2VNHL0VEs I spoke to Elmo at the Alumni Center last season at the UH Homecoming game. He talked about the early days in KC, Lamar Hunt, Otis Taylor (who he still keeps in touch with), Hank Stram, and a scout who he called the "Judge." The guy has a LOT of stories. Too bad he got injured and never realized his potential in the NFL - but he had one heck of a college career! http://www.nytimes.com/2005/11/13/sp...ght.ready.html |

Pretty simple. Army brat, dad transferred to area when I was 10. Took a bit, but now I am one of those lost souls known as a Chiefs (and Royals) fan.
So, Go Chiefs (and take the Royals with you)!

One of my first childhood memories was the Chiefs destroying the Vikes in SB IV, combine that with my favorite color being red, and I became an instant 4 year old chiefs fan and never looked back.

So i've noticed.
Interdasting what effect a Franchise QB can do to a fanbase. Maybe the Chiefs should give it a try sometime....

Back in the early 70's the Chiefs had a running back from Iowa named Eddie Podolak. If you know anything about Iowa football, it was the middle of their darkest period in their history. After the 1961 season in which the Hawkeyes entered the season ranked #1 but finished 5-4, the Hawkeyes would not have a winning season until 1981. The lowest of low was when they went 0-11 in 1973 under the soon to be fired Frank Lauterber. It was nice to sit around the television shouting "Go Eddie go!"
The Chiefs at the time were one of the top franchises from the old AFL at the time. The year I started watching, they were defending SB champions.

I grew up in rural KS in the late 70's. They are the first team I rooted for and will be the last (although for the life of me, sometimes I don't know why)
