He's just NOT INVOLVED IN THE PLAY.

If Siler were so good at tackling and were capable of getting to the play, he would get more tackles per game than DJ. He does not.

It's like a guy who ONLY swings at fastballs. He hits the ball more times per swing!

Fine. He also takes far more strikes on curves. What's your effing point?

All of this is why we need to draft this guy next year:

I get all of this. I know DJ is a better player. If Michael Turner is running straight at one of them, who do you trust to make the fundamental tackle and bring him down? Siler or DJ?

I think we are saying the same thing. This isn't about pursuit. This is about form. Jack Lambert was scary as hell and a playmaker and Jack Hamm was a better tackler. People remember Jack Lambert and forget about Hamm. Jack Hamm was the greatest fundamental tackler of all time.

I think Siler is perfect for the Levon Kirkland role.

The big hitter/space filler.

His problem is he "trods" left to right. He has no fucikng lateral movement at all. NONE.

His agility and quickness laterally are total $3it.

If he plays foreward, fills gaps, and makes tackles he could impress...

Denver rookie QB John Elway, on Jack Lambert, after Lambert and the Steelers knocked Elway out of his first game as a pro (1983).

The play where 30 seconds into the game, the starting defense got trampled by an aging downhill runner?

That play where the opposing offense handed the ball off and ran it straight at Dorsey and DJ?

I knew you would remember.

Just in case though, here's the play;

If Michael Turner is running right at you, you do NOT try and hold your ground and form tackle. He'll break your clavicle. He has the size to do it, and he's RUNNING with you STANDING STILL.

DJ, smartly, would not try and "hit and wrap up." He would - as he does often - take out the runner's ankles. He's been doing it since UT, and it's how he ends up taking down so many runners in the backfield. He goes for their legs. I love it. I prefer it. Not everyone can do it effectively, but he can.

Now, what if it weren't Michael Turner? What if it were Darren Sproles? or McFadden? Forte? Mathews? Deangelo Williams? Any of the other runners that will just juke Siler out of his jockstrap and run around? Yeah...I'll still take DJ - because he won't lose those guys in the open field.
