The only "fear" I have (if you want to call it that) with hiring Ball and/or Wolf is that they hire Mike Sherman as head coach.

He's doing well with Tannehill and Philbin but I don't think he's ready to be a head coach again. Another "fear" would be Childress and that whole "West Coast" gang.

No, no, no, no, no. When Marty gained more control in the late 90s, the team went to complete shit.

Your life depends on a HC getting a team to win one regular season game? There's no better than Marty.

Developing a tough, consistent, prepared football team? Again, Marty.

Putting together the roster? ****. No.

The theory behind hiring Haley was sound; it just didn't work out.

Pull the trigger again, based on the same philosophy. Essentially, we need to take the same philosophic approach to acquiring a franchise QB.

Because Pioli alienated Haley or because Haley was a crazy loon? That would be an interesting question to have answered by somebody who doesn't wear a tin-foil hat 90% of the time.

I know the Packers are the in thing right now, but I'm sorry, there's too much 'Brady/Rodgers' parallel there for me to be too comfortable.

I mean isn't there a decent chance that we hire Wolf and it turns out he, like Pioli, was the product of a very good HC and QB duo? And Wolf didn't really have anything to do with the Rodgers pick.

The Packers still don't have a running game at all. Their line is still garbage. They have a defense that comes and goes as it pleases and really, even in their SB year, they were lucky as !@#$ to even make the playoffs. They then took to kicking ass because Rodgers kicked ass.

Which again just leads us back to a guy that is winning because he has a superstar QB. I don't think that makes him any more likely to pursue one than the next guy - everyone knows this is a QB league now. And lets not sugarcoat this, Wolf is a silver-spoon kid to the max. He, like Haley, got his job because his daddy knew people. He has a !@#$ing creative writing degree for ****'s sake.

I don't see anything in his resume to suggest that he's anything more than a guy that rode the wave of Aaron Rodgers. Now maybe he is - but what's in his record to suggest it?

Hard to say. Given what we're finding out now, it seems that Haley was in a no-win situation. That said, I have strong doubts about his level of HCing competence.

Target the next up-and-coming coordinator and see what happens. Of course, such a philosophy necessitates a savvy GM, so there's that...

I think there's room for both, don't you?

Haley has a lunatic streak to him - we all saw that even during the good times. And Pioli is the most domineering ****stain to ever walk the planet.

Seems like there's an excellent chance that this was just one poor combination of people. That said, I think Haley could have succeeded here without Pioli. Pioli won't succeed anywhere without Brady and Belicheck. So in the end, I'm going to side with Haley over Pioli.

Wait!

That's it!

HC: Casey Bradley
DC: Ken Norton
OC: Dana Holgorsen

General Manager - ME.

My coaching staff is awesome and I'm on record often enough in these damn annual draft threads to know that my draft record would be no worse than average. Hell, I was even first up on the Geno bandwagon. I kid you not, I know my shit.

**** it, I'm updating my resume and sending it to Clark.

The Packers had 20+ guys on IR in 2010, yet still won the Super Bowl.

Yes, Aaron Rodgers was amazing that season (and since) but he couldn't have won the Super Bowl without some modicum of talent surrounding him. The Packers rarely screw up their drafts or let productive players leave via free agency.

I can understand your concerns about Rodgers but outside of him, the rest of the team is solid. If you don't give some of that credit to him, who deserves the credit?

Career highlights:
  • Named director of pro personnel on May 23, 2012. First joined Packers in 2004 as a pro personnel assistant (2004-2008); named assistant director of pro personnel (2008-2010) and assistant director of player personnel (2011).
  • Currently the youngest director of pro personnel in the NFL.
  • The son of former Packers general manager Ron Wolf, Eliot’s scouting career unofficially began at age 10, when he joined his father in film sessions at Lambeau Field.
  • Has worked 20 consecutive Packers drafts (since 1993) and 20 consecutive NFL scouting combines.
  • Graduated from the University of Miami (Fla.) in December 2003 after just 3½ years in order to begin his NFL career before the 2004 NFL Draft.

Shit - I'm out.

I can't subject the poor boys to seeing their hero get excoriated by strangers. How could they ever show their faces at Pete and Mac's?

After the Pioli debacle, this team needs a young and charismatic leader that people around the league will want to work with. They also need someone who is good with the media and gives off a friendly vibe to the fans. The disconnect between the fans and team has never been so apparent as it is now in the Pioli era.

I've watched a few of his press conferences and he seems like he's all of those things. He has a college scouting background and currently running drafts for the most successful franchise in the sport. Seems like a very bright guy with an impressive football background and also an impressive educational background.

And anyone who Jerry Reese thinks fondly of is the most ringing endorsement one could have. Best GM in the biz.
