When Pioli and Co. are fired this offseason, what do you think Clark is most likely to do?

He is going to have to sell season tickets, so do you think he likely goes after an up and coming, but lesser known name GM/Coach combo or does he go after the big name guys knowing it will likely get a large # of fans excited?

Something tells me he is going to try and find a way to have Marty Schottenheimer publicly associated with this team again.

Marty's 69 years old and in 2013, will be seven years removed from the NFL.

Even I don't think Clark's that desperate or dumb.

What is with people wanting the 69 year old guy who hasn't won a playoff game 20 years? Is it because they don't know of any other candidates?

I don't think he meant as HC.

More like team president.

A figurehead.

That would be an awful idea.

Marty knows nothing of running a franchise from top to bottom. He's never been an administrator. Hiring Marty would be a complete cluster****.

There are FAR better candidates to run the Chiefs than ****ing Marty.

I'd be very comfortable with this. If Marty is 69, I'm sure everyone including him knows he's too old to be a new hire at gm. I don't think he'd care if he was hired as a 1-year consultant.

Realize that we can't talk to the best candidates at gm until after the season. If you wait until January to fire pioli you lose a TON of useful scouting information after you fire him.

Marty does a lot of things. First of all, he is smart and experienced enough to help Clark make a better decision on the gm. Second of all, he can run the scouting operation so the next gm can easily transition. Most of all... He makes it easier to fire pioli now, which the chiefs hAVE to do now to stop the bleeding. If we start too late, we then have a late start on picking our next coach and getting the new gm prepared for the draft.

Marty's "consulting" resulted in Pioli in 2009. Furthermore, Marty would just hire Kurt to coach the team or his son. The guy exudes nepotism.

**** him and **** you.

Marty's desperation proves my point. Nobody's knocking on his door. And it doesn't matter anyway because the Chiefs, not Marty, decides if he's going to be a long-term GM. And Clark Hunt, a young guy, isn't about to make a desperation move for a guy who will be 70.

And nobody is suggesting Schottenheimer pick his coach. I am suggesting he run the scouting operation and help Hunt make a better decision on the next GM. For one year. Where did you see the story that Schottenheimer consulted Hunt to sign Pioli? Do you really think it makes sense that Schottenheimer, after getting into fistfights with AJ Smith, would have consulted Pioli to take a GM with a notorious reputation for being a tyrant? C'mon, man.

Vermiel was 60 years old and 14 years removed from the NFL - and won a SB when he came back.

I'm not advocating hiring Marty as HC, I'm just pointing out the flaw in your argument.

I'm going to point out the flaw in YOUR argument:

Vermeil wasn't getting it done. His teams were 5-11 and 4-12. John Shaw hired Mike Martz and installed him as offensive coordinator. John Shaw signed Trent Green and drafted Tory Holt (he had signed Kurt Warner in 1998).

Shaw gave Vermeil one last chance and after the Rams won the Super Bowl (due to Martz and Warner), Vermeil was kicked to the curb.

Furthermore, Marty Schottenheimer would have taken an NFL job in a ****ing HEARTBEAT in the past 6 years. Vermeil CHOSE not to coach in the NFL.

The situations could not be MORE different.

You must work in PR, because you definitely know how to spin.

Spin?

Please point of where Vermeil coached in any other league other than the NFL. He wanted NO PART of coaching and was happy broadcasting.

Marty has been so desperate to coach that he spent two seasons in the bankrupt UFL! No one in the NFL wanted a ****ing thing to do with the guy since he was fired in 2006.

That's not spin. Those are facts.

"Spin" would be ignoring the facts to make a point.
