Who the hell is Caplan? It might as well be Gabe Kaplan:

Adam Caplan writes for Fox and is a respected East Coast writer. That said, this sounds more like opinion than fact, although I tend to agree.

If this team doesn't win more than two or three games (and I'm sticking with 1-15 until proven otherwise), Clark cleans house.

Anything is possible, although I don't see the Hunt family as quite that reactionary.

I don't know if it will be Pioli's head that would be on the chopping block....but I could see Romeo being the scapegoat.

Yep. And for those who aren't familiar with Caplan, he covered the Eagles for years. He's a Philly guy, sharp dude too. I imagine this is his opinion, but he is part of the NFL culture and has been a long time -- he's qualified to give opinion on NFL matters.

The only problem is that Crennel is the best of a bad bunch. Who would Pioli elevate to head coach?

Carthon? Daboll? Gibbs? Pleasant? That's an awful pool.

I really don't want him to elevate Emmitt Thomas. The man is a Chiefs and NFL Hall of Famer but he's a secondary coach and 70 years old. I'd hate to see his image tarnished by Pioli.

If you are interested in Caplan talking NFL "Hot Seat" then listen to this podcast below. He covered the entire league during this. At the 10 min mark he mentions Pioli & Crennel are in trouble etc. Good stuff from Caplan;

Wouldn't the smart thing be to remove Pioli from power and let Crennel finish the season. At least this would allow Crennel to choose a QB and others without interference. Not to say Crennel will be retained, I don't think he will.
