Seattle radio was talking about the Seachickens acquiring Bowe for a 4th round 2013 pick, today. Just talk by the radio hosts but his availability, if any, is being discussed. I would rather get something for him than not if the decision has already been made that he won't be in KC next year.

That would be a terrible move on the Chiefs part.

If Bowe walks, the Chiefs will get a 3rd as compensation so why trade for a 4th?

Bowe's trade value does not even closely match his value to the Chiefs, which is much higher. A 4th round pick is a ****ing insult and an unnecessary kick to the nuts.

The new GM is going to have to fork over the dollars or go in a different direction.

Either way, I don't want Scott Pioli determining ANY part of Bowe's future. Pioli can go fist a cow.

How do we know that?

Im being serious, how do they determine what kind of compensation pick you get?

Isnt it determined by total losses/gains of FAs before they even consider the player?

edit; looking into it, it seems that its based on a secret formula, and has to do with who you picked up the previous season and who you lost, and how 'good' they are. Seems like a bunch of relative BS with a ton of factors that are as yet unknown to say yea we are going to get X round of draft pick.

Compensatory picks are not automatic or guaranteed. To make sure they got a pick for Bowe, whoever the GM is would have to work the system, only sign about 3 free agents, and then load up on guys who were cut by their prior team.

In other words, do what Pioli did this past offseason to keep the pick for Carr. But sitting back, being clever, and cherry-picking guys who won't cost you a pick is a lot easier to do with the mindset of "Hey, we just missed the playoffs and we'll be getting some of our best players back".

After an abortion like this season, trying to work within the parameters of keeping a compensatory pick would be like handcuffing yourself.
