Teicher: Dorsey says Chiefs could draft Joeckel and re-sign Albert

Dorsey says Chiefs could draft Joeckel and re-sign Albert
By ADAM TEICHER
The Kansas City Star
General manager John Dorsey said Saturday the Chiefs might select Texas A&M’s Luke Joeckel with the first pick in the draft even if they re-sign Branden Albert, their incumbent left tackle. Dorsey said the Chiefs would draft the highest-rated player they have on their board regardless of his position.

“Then you have great competition at left tackle,’’ said Dorsey, speaking at the NFL Scouting Combine, of the combination of re-signing Albert and drafting Joeckel . “Who’s to say both of those guys are locked in to playing left tackle? Maybe one plays left guard, center, right guard, right tackle. You put your best five offensive linemen out there.

“There are so many options out there right now. Anything is possible.’’

Another interesting option for the Chiefs is Georgia linebacker Jarvis Jones, who had 28 sacks over the past two seasons. The Chiefs already have Pro Bowlers at outside linebacker in Tamba Hali and Justin Houston.

“They’re both pretty good players,’’ Dorsey said of the incumbents. “But who’s to say you couldn’t acquire another outside linebacker and what you could do is begin to rotate them. What you do is you make that unit better because they’re all fresher. They’re not on the field pounding all the time. That’s the thing about building quality depth. You can make your guys fresher in the fourth quarter.’’

I don't have a problem with it either.

The only thing I have a problem with is people telling me that I have to do the same.

I can't trust them - I won't trust them. I've been a Chiefs fan far too long and been burned far too many times.

I was actually pretty jaded before that.

I've been pretty down on this franchise since about 2000. I got "up" for a brief period while Vermeil was here, only to get dropped on my face, and I was "hopeful" for about 8 months in 2009.

Joeckel is out.

Listening to these guys right now, especially Billick, talking about Eric Fisher has me convinced.

Joeckel isn't worth the #1 overall pick when people can legitimately sit there and say "well, Eric Fisher might be a better prospect".

I think he could do fine at guard. I think he'd be better at guard than either of our starters. I don't know whether he'd be a better guard than tackle.

Eh, I think Asamoah is fine at guard. Allen was just bad.

However, like I said last night, if I wanted to upgrade the guard spot, I'd rather take a guard like Cooper or Warmack than move Albert. I think he's alot better of a LT than people give him credit for. At this point, I'm not sure how well he would transition to guard.

Although, if we did pay him that much and moved him to guard, he better damn well be better than fine, cause if he woudl be just ok there, we could get ok for cheaper, using those resources to get guys who can get the ball in the endzone.

I am both amazed and appalled by the sheer, utter, epic, monumental stupidity of this idea of moving Albert to guard so that the Chiefs can ostensibly take the best player available.

There has never been a team that has moved a successful LT to guard to maximize value for the BPA.

You know why?

Because ther are no words to sufficiently portray the mononacy of the idea.

That is simply not true. I want a QB, but after hearing that Geno is the only QB that is considered a first round talent at all right now, I think it would be great to get a QB at 34/trade up for our guy.
