Dorsey says Chiefs could draft Joeckel and re-sign Albert

General manager John Dorsey said Saturday the Chiefs might select Texas A&M’s Luke Joeckel with the first pick in the draft even if they re-sign Branden Albert, their incumbent left tackle. Dorsey said the Chiefs would draft the highest-rated player they have on their board regardless of his position.

“Then you have great competition at left tackle,’’ said Dorsey, speaking at the NFL Scouting Combine, of the combination of re-signing Albert and drafting Joeckel . “Who’s to say both of those guys are locked in to playing left tackle? Maybe one plays left guard, center, right guard, right tackle. You put your best five offensive linemen out there.

“There are so many options out there right now. Anything is possible.’’

Another interesting option for the Chiefs is Georgia linebacker Jarvis Jones, who had 28 sacks over the past two seasons. The Chiefs already have Pro Bowlers at outside linebacker in Tamba Hali and Justin Houston.

“They’re both pretty good players,’’ Dorsey said of the incumbents. “But who’s to say you couldn’t acquire another outside linebacker and what you could do is begin to rotate them. What you do is you make that unit better because they’re all fresher. They’re not on the field pounding all the time. That’s the thing about building quality depth. You can make your guys fresher in the fourth quarter.’’

There has never been a team that has moved a successful LT to guard to maximize value for the BPA.

We don't know who our brass thinks is the best QB, but considering the fact that we are talking with the Eagles at the combine indicates that Reid believes Foles can be just as good as any QB in this class and a franchise QB.

What? Completely changed the subject on me there.

We don't know if he thinks that or not. If he does, we will likely trade for Foles and not draft a Qb in this draft.

I'm not going to trust anyone, until we see results. Thats what got us in trouble last time.

Why not trust the guy who got the best QB in the history of the NFL in the 6th round?

Not if you're fairly sure your guy or guys will be there with your pick. Dorsey and Reid might have more than one QB they value, but none with a 1st round grade. I'd rather take one of the top players regardless of position, and wait for your QB, even with the risk he might not be there.

There isn't a single player at that spot that isn't stretch, so you either take Smith, Barkley, or any QB that you believe is the best QB is the best on the board.

Who is this top player? If we are gonna wait til the 34 pick, I would rather them just trade for Foles, so they can know they have their guy.

Enough playing risk with the most important position in sports.

If Clowney is sitting there at 1, yeah, I'd risk missing on my QB for that if I had a pretty good idea he wasn't going before I could pick again.

But with this class at the top, it's pretty tough.
