so here's my idea SOC opens up donations again because I'm sure he'll get to strike 3 by the 4th round of this NFL draft and then in 2015 we'll have a huge pot of cash gaining interest so we can get billboards and shit next time around |

I want to keep Albert and I would overpay him, but I could see why they would want to get him at the right price. |

I can see Reidsey acquiring Smith as a stopgap, but cheap, like a 4th and a conditional next year. But they want to start their regime with a guy that has an arm. If you want a starting point at QB, you want a guy with an arm.

If John Dorsey commits to Alex Smith, that is WORSE than Pioli trading for Cassel and giving him that deal. Know why? We didnt have the top pick that year with a franchise quarterback sitting right there and no chance of us not being able to get him. Tell me Im wrong... |

if Dorsey trades for Smith and then gives him a ridiculous extension then that'll be one thing
if they trade for Smith and he doesn't give him an extension... I have no problem with it whatsoever. If we don't take a QB by #34 I'm going to be pretty disappointed. |

So if they want compensation out of him, they have to pay for it, which works for us because his salary isn't nearly as expensive as Cassel's will be next year after the 49ers eat the roster bonus. We'll actually be netting a starting QB for about half of Cassel's worth on the 2013 roster, and eat next to nothing by comparison for cutting cassel or better yet, dishing him. So in reality, you ask yourself. Is getting Alex Smith for about 60% of his salary for the 2013 season worth a 4th round pick to you? While you basically make all of that money back in Cutting Cassel from the same roster? You're basically getting Alex Smith for a 4th round draft pick when it is all said and done, and the 49ers have to bite the bullet on the roster bonus, which they are already cash starved on, and they lose a player. They end up with marginally more cap room, but one less player they already paid, so really it kind of shafts the niners who are going to have to restructure and gut their roster and load up on draft picks if they want to keep their defense the way it is. |

Cheap trade price (4th or lower) + drafting a QB by No. 34, I can live with it (especially if the guy they draft is Geno Smith).

Otherwise, you trade for Cousins/Foles and draft fatties for the next few years and try to get a guy like Austin at WR. |
