And for the record, Alex Smith is better than Matt Cassel. He's won a playoff game and played well against good teams while Cassel pissed his pants in big games.
But he isn't THAT much better than him at all. If Cassel was a 4/10, Smith would be a 5/10. But that's not what anyone wants. We want to draft a mother****ing QB that has the potential to be at least an 8/10.

We had little film on Cassel. He played a good 5 game stretch to end the year in New England out of the spread offense. I've seen Alex Smith the last two years...he has better mechanics, he has great short accuracy, and he has good mobility and his pocket awareness has improved since Harbaugh became his coach. Andy Reid is also good with QB's. It's ridiculous. Alex Smith was the #1 overall pick for a reason. He has talent. He always had talent. His shoulder injury limits his arm strength now no doubt. He is better than Matt ****ing Cassel. and again, you guys are all acting that, since I'M BEING OBJECTIVE, I'm advocating Alex Smith as our franchise QB. That couldn't be further than the truth. I want Geno as much as anyone. It's time for our franchise to get an enema and Alex Smith is just the same old shit that simply doesn't excite me in the least. I'm just not going to slit my wrists and cry about something that A) hasn't happened and B) doesn't mean anything since we all knew we needed two QB's to begin with so if the deal does go down and we trade a conditional 4th for Alex and then take Geno #1 then I think that is an absolute INCREDIBLE win for KC and for Dorsey/Reid/the fans but if it's Smith/Joeckel then the new regime has a full count already and if we don't make the playoffs/win a game/and show we are primed for some sort of run in the future with Alex Smith as our QB1 then sign me up for the next regime change, thank you |

But if we trade for Alex Smith and don't draft a top QB from this class to develop, I'm not supporting this regime this year. That would be the breaking point for me.

if we are doing a 1-10 comparison
Cassel is, at very best, a 2 (he's mobile) Smith would be a 6.5 I think we could get Smith all the way up to a 7 with the confidence he has from Harbaugh and with the production Reid gets out of his QB's. Aaron Rodgers is a 10. Geno Smith has the potential to be a 10. A. Smith doesn't. So draft ****ing Geno and be done with it. If you want to trade a conditional 4th for Alex I'm ok with that. I think 4th-7th round picks are crapshoots and about as valuable as getting lucky with UDFA. I have no issue with trading these picks...ever. The funniest thing I can remember on this board is people going APE SHIT because Pioli traded a future 7th to move back into the 7th and take Jake O'Connell. People were LIVID because we traded a future 7th round pick to take a shitty ass player... and in all honesty, as much as we all hate O'Connell and as worthless as we all think he is...for a 7th round pick to be on the roster for 4 years?!?!? O'Connell was one of Pioli's best picks! Hahahaha. |

I've said before that I never want to see Cassel take another snap for the Chiefs, even in the preseason. However, I would rather keep Cassel (at a reduced cost) than spend a draft pick on Alex Smith if they are just looking for a mentor (neither would be my first choice). This is a deep draft and a high 4th has a good chance of netting a decent player.

I'm not talking about other drafts, just this one. It's universally been described as a very deep draft with no really elite talent. With the 2nd pick in the 4th, it's nearly another 3rd.

2007
Paul Soliai Jermon Bushron Dashon Goldson Le'Ron McClain (FB) Nick Folk (K) 2008 Jerome Felton (FB) Carl Nicks 2009 Henry Melton Johnny Knox (I think special teams here but he played offense too) Thomas Morstead (P) 2010 Aaron Hernandez Geno Atkins Kam Chancellor Antonio Brown 2011 2012 IN SHORT, CARL NICKS AND JERMON BUSHROD WERE GREAT VALUE PICKS. I LIKE AARON HERNANDEZ, KAM CHANCELLOR AND ANTONIO BROWN, TOO. BUT THESE ARE 4 WHOLE ROUNDS OF PICKS OVER 5 FULL YEARS OF DRAFTING AND NOT A WHOLE LOT OF PRIME TIME PLAYERS COMING FROM THESE ROUNDS, AND IF YOU GET ONE, YOU LITERALLY STRIKE GOLD. So trading a 4th round pick, or a 5th round pick for ANY established player is usually a win, and at worst, not much of a risk AT ALL. |
