Yeah, you're right.

A team that hasn't won a playoff game in 20 years should take a QB #1 overall, in a year in which the QB class is historically lightly regarded, then ask their disenfranchised fan base to give them three years to develop a guy that might possibly some day lead them to a Super Bowl.

Even though every rational mind on the subject says that even the best QB in this particular draft is questionable at best and likely a backup.

That sounds like an amazing plan that will most certainly rally the fans and fill the stadium.

As I've said before, I'm pretty sure at least one QB from this class will end up having a better career than Alex Smith.

That's pretty much how I see it too......a mediocre guy who can keep us in contention to win the division, as long as the teams are weak........maybe go to wild card week once.....sell some jerseys and tickets....play safe ball....

No, I do not.

Alex Smith is a stop gap, plain and simple. The current Chiefs roster has talent and could definitely challenge for a playoff spot, if they stay healthy, with Alex Smith.

Apparently, they don't like any QB in the first, which is consistent with every scouting report, amateur or professional, for the past five months.

It's not that hard to figure out why this trade was made.

Well, at least for me.

Isn't that what I just said basically? I agree...he is a stop gap to sell tickets. A safe bet to be around .500 and not have a disaster season again....

Unlike barkley or g. smith,et al. which as you point out are riskier , would take longer to develop...

but have a much higher up-side (longer term)

The odds are highly in this direction, unless Alex Smith suddenly becomes drew brees...

If 3 QB go in round 1, the odds are roughly that one will be better than Alex, and one will be about the same, and one worse.......
