I was trying to find the origin and development of draft rules and stumbled across an article about the first draft here:
http://profootballresearchers.org/Co.../05-06-143.pdf It says that at first the teams collected lists of college seniors. Of course that was back when pro football wasn't exactly big money. Players would make more money back then working their jobs in the off season.
