I love that idea grooming a qb both Reid and Dorsey have done this before. Let me ask you all if the chiefs were to do this in first would u be more comfortable with Alex smith trade?

I sure would but if smith struggled I'd also be calling for a qb change lol

I'm comfortable with the trade because I think that's exactly what they are going to do, draft a QB they believe in, and then groom him for success. A Smith has proven to be a good mentor if anything. So, yeah, I think this is what Reid and Dorsey have in mind.

We would be in the catbirds seat for another trade down...Lane Johnson is the last left tackle prospect left that has the ability to start and be effective.

There are a litany of teams that would likely be interested...

Rams at 16
Dolphins at 12
Cowboys at 18

All of those teams would be willing to move up for a good left tackle.

IMO the most realistic would be the Dolphins. After letting Long walk, they need a blind side protector for their young franchise quarterback.

Of course I would. The trade would make at least a modicum of sense at that point.

Sean Smith is also going to get 7.5 to 8 mil + and they cannot justify spending 100 million on 3 CBs.

The Chiefs gave up two premium picks for Alex Smith.
And Smith played the good soldier and mentored Kaepernick, and what did that get him.

In his place, there isn't a single person that wouldn't tell the next young guj, "You're on your own, rookie".

Not if your thinking beyond your career considering coaching in the future. Apparently, smith was one of the main people coaching Kapernick according to Harbaugh. So maybe AS has coaching in his blood. Maybe AS isn't a complete selfish asshole and is willing to be a mentor/coach/teacher.

Also, what veteran are they going to get in FA? We need a veteran on this QB staff.

I really think they are going to draft a QB and they are going to groom him.
