The best way to protect Alex Smith is to stay out of shootouts.

The best way to stay out of shootouts is to force the other team into a ball-control offense.

We've taken care of part 1 - lots of guys in the secondary that can cover ground. Now we need to deal with part 2 - improving the pass rush.

Floyd or Richardson could do as much to protect Alex Smith as Luke Joeckel could. After watching Stephenson hold his own against Miller, I think he's a more than capable RT for us.

Sadly I'd say both lines are the weakest spots on the team at this point.
