I did a report about these caps in high school and how effective they were.
I never understood what happened to them. I thought the players simply attached the 'soft' stigma to it and refused to wear it out of tough guy stupidity. They work. |

I'm guessing they work to prevent concussions but cause other issues. If the surface of the helmet isn't hard and slick, you risk having them grip when they collide, and then you're looking at neck injuries.
